R.A. Salvatore is great. I was way into him in highschool. Haven't read him recently.
He writes very elaborate fight scenes, and in retrospect it's impressive the degree to which it's engaging to read about when he does that. Usually when you try and write something that reliant on large amounts of precise visual information prose as a form starts to become unwieldy. There's a reason they say a picture is worth a thousand words. But when he does it it's really, vivid in your mind, a seamless experience. You're not like actively aware of the fact that you're reading, if that makes sense. Or at least I wasn't.
