I have been playing BG since it was released, and I actually like and appreciate the EE NPCs. I am sure plenty of people new to BG dislike the EE NPCs for various reasons, just as I am sure there are plenty of people like me who enjoy the flavor they bring to the game. You should not generalize...

Honestly? The EE NPCs aren't really that much worse than quite a few of the non-EE ones. People seem to object to them coming up to you for a dialog, involving you in a scene, or being required in the party for a quest, but a lot of the non-EE ones do the same thing. Lets look at a few examples...
