1. Dead by Daylight is free on Epic Games Store (2 days left)

Dead by Daylight is a multiplayer (4 vs 1) horror game where one player takes on the role of the savage Killer, and the other four players play as Survivors.

2. while True: learn () is free on Epic Games Store (2 days left)

while True: learn() is a puzzle/simulation game about even more puzzling stuff: machine learning, neural networks, big data and AI.

3. Anno 1404 History Edition is free on Ubisoft Connect (7 days left)

Anno 1404 History Edition is a true city-building classic, often regarded as the best Anno game (it is one of my favourite Anno games for sure), updated for modern hardware. Antimatter recommends.

1. Godfall Challenger Edition is free on Epic Games Store (7 days left)

Godfall is a looter slasher in the fantasy world. Now it has additional features in the Challenger Edition. I wanted to try this game when it was first shown but didn't happen to have good timing to buy it.

2. Prison Architect is free on Epic Games Store (7 days left)

Prison Architect is a management strategy game inspired by Dungeon Keeper, Dwarf Fortress and Theme Hospital.

1. Assassin's Creed: Odyssey will be free to play from Dec 16 to Dec 20 on Ubisoft Connect.

While even 5 days are not enough to complete this game, it's still a kind gesture on their part. Assassin's Creed: Odyssey is a 3rd-person action RPG set in Ancient Greece and has one of the best-looking worlds I have explored. If you want to have a 5-day vacation in sunny Greece and enjoy all the mythology (and dialogues with Socrates of course!), I can't recommend the game enough. It also has one of the best female protagonists I've played!

Your progress during the "free weekend" can be saved if you then purchase the game (and knowing Ubisoft, it'll be hugely discounted, eg. 80% off).

2. Ubisoft is also giving away for free Rayman Origins, a high-definition, 2D side-scrolling, platforming adventure with full four-player co-op.

The holiday period has come early.

We are entitled to a round of free games (at least 14, with one free game per day) for the holiday season, courtesy of the Epic Games Store.

The first game (free until tomorrow) is Shenmue III. It's an action RPG with an immersive story, cinematic sequences and "a realistic fighting system" in a rural China setting. What's not to like?

Today's free game from the EGS is Remnant: From the Ashes, it's a very well-known third-person survival action shooter set in a post-apocalyptic world. As one of the last remnants of humanity, you’ll set out alone or alongside up to two other players to face down hordes of deadly enemies and epic bosses, and try to carve a foothold, rebuild, and then retake what was lost.

This is a "premium" game if you can call games that, a big and popular game. https://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/remnant-from-the-ashes

Not a genre I've tried before, so I claimed it. Just in case. Thanks for keeping us updated on all that and adding information about the games too!

Today's free game from the EGS is The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. I haven't played mystery games at all, this one has a 88% user rating on Steam and looks quite well graphically.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is a first-person story-driven mystery that focuses entirely on exploration and discovery. It contains no combat. You play the game as Paul Prospero, an occult-minded detective who receives a disturbing letter from Ethan Carter.

Another premium game for free (from the EGS). Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is a tactical game that combines the turn-based combat of XCOM with real-time stealth and exploration of a post-human world reclaimed by nature... and Mutants. The game has a 90% lifetime rating on Steam, I've always wanted to try it, just haven't had a chance. Now the chance is here. ;)

You didn't see this one coming! Pathfinder: Kingmaker - Enhanced Edition is free on the EGS today!
Hah! I was going to remain off for these days because of family, but now I definitely don't regret checking the tavern on phone while the food is in the oven :)

That's a big giveaway indeed, particularly for someone still undecided about the game, as I was.

Today's free game on the EGS is Control. I have to admit, there are 3 modern games that have impressed me a lot, more than other modern games: Cyberpunk 2077, Death Stranding, and Control. Control invited me to games created by Remedy - a Finnish developer known for their Max Payne and Alan Wake games (which I missed before). I VERY MUCH recommend Control for experiencing some of the best available graphics in games, an amazingly weird setting, and a "feeling good" gameplay factor where you are levitating, destroying all the environment around you, using this environment to attack your enemies, and just being one constantly moving and shooting unit. The writing, the setting, the use of destroyable objects around you, the VO, and the music, oh that music. The game also gives a glimpse of Finland, or, rather, Finnish culture, which is a unique asset.

Sometimes, games can reveal new developer studios to you and open new worlds (similar to how you read a novel by an author, fall in love, and then read other works by that author). It happened to me with Divinity: Original Sin and Larian, and it happened to me with Control and Remedy. Now, these studios are my favourite developers, I like their other games, I monitor their new games' development news, and I admire their developers in person.

Galactic Civilizations III is free on the EGS (the offer will be valid for 6 days). "The game offers a space sandbox experience, where you won't have to experience the same thing twice. Choose your race and expand your military power, or focus on technological progress, as there are multiple paths to become victorious. It's up to you how you will rule your galaxy."

It's one of the largest 4X space strategy titles ever made. 4X (abbreviation of Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate) is a subgenre of strategy-based games.

I would point to this review on Steam explaining the game and comparing it to other competitors.

I haven't posted about free games in a while, but here we go.

Windbound is free on the EGS (the offer will be valid for 7 days). From a Steam review: "It's a hugely ambitious game that is pretty difficult to recommend. The developers attempted an open world, rogue-like, survival/crafting, botw-clone with souls-like stamina-focused combat , and they came pretty close to realising that goal. The game has a lot of praiseworthy aspects—the sailing mechanics, ship building, music and art direction are all top notch. But those qualities are held back by clunky and repetitive combat, made even worse by the heavy-handed punishments for death the game employs. The result is a game that can be super relaxing one minute as you sail around on your ship, and then massively frustrating the next as you get stunlocked and ragdolled across an island to your death."

I think the images are pretty soothing indeed.
