Greedfall 2 is getting negative reviews for a few reasons, one of them being the RtwP combat choice

Noticed this today while browsing the game's Steam reviews (45% from only 73 reviews, yeeesh). The game got into Early Access yesterday.

So it seems for today's RPG market, you either go action combat like Veilguard (can be a good or a bad thing depending on the execution, e.g. I absolutely love action combat in The Witcher 3) or go full turn-based like Rogue Trader and Baldur's Gate 3. From a purely financial standpoint, it doesn't make sense to go RTWP.

Maybe.. but I get the feeling it's more that you should stick with what the players expect and not change too much between iterations. Ie DA changed their gameplay between all games, so I personally wasn't expecting anything special from Veilguard, but they changed to a very action-y game style that I guess made people/players wonder about what to expect. Greedfall changed from 1 to 2 instead of keeping it mostly intact and perhaps just refining it, improving on it.

So IMHO, it's about execution VS expectations. But on another note in the same vein, executing on par with "fans" expectations nowadays have proven damn hard.. there's always some very vocal group of haters no matter which design choice you make. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
