Please post your main character ideas (with shiny screenshots from character creation if possible). Since we're still before release, here's just an idea for my first character. Not sure if ultimately this is the one I will play, but it will definitely be one of the choices. It's totally headcannon, with use of canonical characters.

[Dalamar the Gold] - half-elf gold draconic bloodline sorcerer. An offspring and an apprentice and of famous gold dragon Larendrammagar, also known as "Nexus". Nexus happened to visit Evermeet frequently in disguise a couple of decades ago, posing as sun elf mage Rhiannon, where he got involved in an affair with a strikingly beautiful sun elf sorcerer Amaril Sunglow. Unknowingly to Nexus, Amaril got pregnant and didn't say anything to Rhiannon, because she accidentally learned, that he is in fact a gold dragon, and no other than Larendrammagar himself. She was furious he was able to deceive her so easily, while also afraid of the reaction of her people, when they learn, that she gave birth to a child of the dragon. She was not able to hide this secret before Nexus too long, though, and when the dragon learned about it, he offered Amaril to take the soon-to-be-born boy to his home, to raise him and teach him magic. Amaril reluctantly agreed, and Nexus took an infant boy to his secret lair in Desertmouth Mountains to train him as a powerful mage. But rather than mother's talent to traditional magic, the boy inherited an innate affinity to the Weave, more akin to his father's own abilities. Because of his heritage, he also acquired dragon-like abilities of his father, like fire breath. Before he took his son with him, Nexus and Amaril named the boy Dalamar, after the (in)famous mage from Krynn, who Nexus had the privilege to met a couple of times in the past, through their mutual acquaintance, Elminster of Shadowdale.

Because of this topic, I got so excited that launched BG3 for the first time since Oct 2020 and spent more than 4 hours just with the character creator alone thinking about possible characters and their appearances. It was only in the Early Access build, so it's outdated and limited, but still.

Probably after these hours, the number of options for my possible Tavs got decreased from ~12 to ~6. Getting there!

I created my usual (and beloved) Human Male Wizard (no sub-classes. I like being able to cast ALL the spells!) Tek'ran Al'Hazrad who basically is my alter-ego in most fantasy RPGs, although I'm not sure yet if I'll keep his current look. I might go back and recreate him and some point. So far I created him just to poke into the game and start exploring. :)

Btw, I've heard it before, but what's the story behind the "Tavs" name?

BG3 was codenamed Project Gustav. Gustav was the name of Swen's dog. It became 'Tav. By default, your character in Early Access was called Tav, and the place where you could change it, wasn't apparent enough, so thousands of players started to play the Early Access build with their characters named Tav (I was one of them as well). It's changed in the release version now.

Ahh, that explains it. I had a feeling that Tav was the default name for all characters since I saw it in the Name field, but I still had no idea how it came to be, so thanks for the explanation. :)

Also, I just reached Level 2 and apparently you HAVE to pick a Wizard specialization? But at the same time, it looks like Specializing no longer locks you out of being able to cast spells from other schools. Not sure if this is a 5E thing or if it was a change Larian made for BG3. Anyway, had a hard time choosing between Evocation or Necromancy, but I ultimately went with Evocation because being able to just freely chuck Fireballs right into the middle of your party without harming them sounds like an amazing benefit. XD The Necromancy benefit sounds super cool (once per turn, if you kill an enemy you gain back 2x the damage you dealt to the enemy in health, 3x if it was a Necromancy spell) from a roleplaying perspective, but on the other hand, healing is what I've got Clerics for. :p

I’ve started several characters already, trying to figure which one will be fun to play. I’m taking it slow though, since I can’t seem to handle playing these games for very long. My latest attempt is a wood elf monk named Ina (short for Inalia). I plan to follow the Way of Shadows, while taking two levels in Great Ol’ One warlock, both for role playing reasons, and for Devil’s Sight. It should let me see through the magical Darkness I’ll pick up at monk level 3, and give me an edge over the foes I will face.

I also had restart andromeda syndrome and made a Gith sorceress! hehe I did her with 1 lvl in Bard for my red witch wild card...

In my head cannon Tav'itha forms an astral metal band with Lae'zel, and even though they're not really that great they still manage to keep it wild. They mostly play Dance with the Dead covers lol

Just wanted to see the dialogue options there mostly. I kinda know I don't really have it in me to go all the way with Bard as my main class, but it synergizes alright with the prime in CHA. Kind of a self nerf I guess, but I figure in the early game being one level off the curve isn't too bad. Like I just got the shatter, and replace spell is pretty powerful. There's always some competition there between misty step, mirror image maybe invisibility, or cloud of daggers and scorching ray. Seem to be my mains, the others are like too situational.

Healing word is a nice touch from Bard though, and some flourishes to make use of the instrument slot and such, just to make it feel a bit more like a Bard run. Plus I get the better robes which was another major factor there for me. Of all the starting outfits, I think the Sorcerers' robes are the only threads that look sufficiently Githyanki for my taste hehe. I had some weirdness with my Balanced saves, exclamation points and such, so I started over on Tactician, since act 1 is pretty meta now for me. I figure goofing around with Bard is a bit of flavor boon but a power malus, to compensate for the awesome power up of sorcerous meta magic. Anyway we can Withers our way to pure class Sorc if it's really necessary to smash a big fight towards the end, but the Bard flavor was a fun touch.

I don't think Wyll is fooling anyone with his hat hehe.

Then a wild magic surge turned us all into cats and dogs...

lol

Clutch!
Pretty good times so far!

Yeah it's kinda of a blast. I tried twinned dissonant whispers like Frampton Comes Alive, to make em feel like I do, while Lae'zel and Karlach just wrecked the room hehe.

Plus I get this chaos randomness angle which has been entertaining. Healing word and bardic inspiration with the Alfira hat has been pretty useful at keeping the gang on their feet too. I remember finding an amulet that did the same, but it's cool to just have the spell, cause this is my first run without Shadowheart to do the heavy lifting on heals. So far I haven't missed her, she's kinda guiding bolt all day anyway for me when she's around. Here I'm doing more of the fancy footwork and trying to keep up with Karlach's two step lol. Not sure when it's best to take the second level in bard, but probably not till I get counterspell I think. I did find that having the ASI to look forward too was kinda nice as well, cause everyone else got theirs at the same time, so this has got a little stagger to it that I'm diggin'

Also this is the first time I had Wyll in the party during Act I when...

doing Waukeen's Rest. Florrick didn't mention anything about his strange new appearance, so maybe his hat trick worked after all lol!

Mizora came pretty early, cause the Hunt for Karlach was my first move. After that scene I feel like we made the right call bringing the devils along for the ride this time.
