    Thunderstruck! Blind playthrough of Arcanum

Wait, a case can be made for a human PC. The Dwarf's tech bonus is not really that significant. Plus, their stat adjustments take two points from stats I need and gives only one point to a useful stat. Additionally, if I'm keeping Magnus and letting him keep his gauntlets, that's one less...

    Thunderstruck! Blind playthrough of Arcanum

Well, I took another approach to the mine and I'm slowly muddled forward. Basically, I'm getting close enough to an enemy to be in range with my pistol, taking a few pot shots, and then kiting it back while the team whacks it down. However, their gear is taking a beating on ore golems. Every hit...

    Thunderstruck! Blind playthrough of Arcanum

I decided against randomly wandering and decided to check out this BMC. I'm only level 11. At first, no problem. ailing wolves and kites. Then, out of nowhere pops an ore golem (level 25) and it's a TPK (with everyone breaking their weapons in the process). I genuinely feel I missed out on a...

    Thunderstruck! Blind playthrough of Arcanum

I found Gilbert Bates and he sent me to investigate a mine. I was feeling a little underleveled (only level 10) so I tried to clean up some old quests to get a boost. No luck. I started with Liam's quest near Black Root. I could get as far as the portal, but couldn't take the portal itself so I...

    Thunderstruck! Blind playthrough of Arcanum

My crew is rather under-equipped though. The swords are nice, but they have next to nothing for armor aside from basic torso armor and whatever boots I've been able to pull from the rubbish. Everyone still needs helms, gauntlets, proper boots, shields, and (except Virgil) charged rings. This is...

    Thunderstruck! Blind playthrough of Arcanum

Ok, so I've run the gambit on Tarant, I think. The only thing left to do is hit up the owner of the mysterious ring. I gotta be honest, I was expecting far more trouble from P. Schulyer and Sons once I learned what they were up to. However, they fell pretty easy, and my party (now Virgil, Sogg...

    Thunderstruck! Blind playthrough of Arcanum

In any event, I've run my lap around Tarant, picked up Magnus, came up with a good reason for him to give me his gauntlets, and am now underneath P. Schuyler and Sons working my way to the end. I have my CH and Persuasion in a good place and also bumped Strength a point to 8, with the gloves...

    Thunderstruck! Blind playthrough of Arcanum

I'll jump on that grenade. Disclaimer, this is my opinion and I don't intend it as an objective fact. It depends on how many slots are on the list. The problem I had with the IE games is that (aside from Planescape) the stories range from mid (Icewind Dale) to terrible (Baldur's Gate, there, I...

At that casual tables I've sat at, they're also playing poker. Right, but if you want to mindlessly chug through and not have to engage, you need to buy module after module to play. God forbid one has to build something with that machine. I mean, if it's on par or more bits and bobs than 3.5e...

Not really morality, but more psychology. Everyone is signing on to play a game where they don't have to engage in a game. I mean, I'm not judging, I've played Torchlight. But I also only spent $5 on the first two games. Something like Pathfinder can easily run you into the hundreds. It's a lot...

Yeah, any design that pushes you to buy more stuff is good for business. That has nothing to do with being a good game, but it's definitely a solid product.

I get it now. So Pathfinder is good for GMs because they can buy one of the many modules, not have to really do prep work, and then just follow the bouncing ball in actual play. You don't have to actually build anything, you just buy more Pathfinder stuff. Well, then, that makes sense.

lol...I didn't even notice she was half-elf. Nevertheless, I dragged her butt back to my stash in Shrouded Hills and gave her all my homepathic materials. I can have her generate healing salves as needed. I think she'll do as a tech healer and free Irvine up from that line. I really, really...

    The Witcher series

I would be tempted to make an argument that virtually everything is a trope at this point. Most likely everything fantasy, at least. But even things in other genres could still be telling the same story at its core. That actually makes sense to me. I'm sure she didn't enjoy the Trial, but...

Oh, wow, I wasn't aware. I usually aim to do campaigns from level 1 to max (basically level 14 for B/X). That would be a long-ass time to deal with an anti-paladin. I think I get it. So, with everything getting a CR and encounter design being basically a formula, you (the GM) don't have to deal...

This, I don't understand. It's like, let's take the biggest weakness from D&D and lean into that. I'm not sure I understand. Are you saying that burnt out GMs may gravitate towards Pathfinder because of its pedantry? It must be brutal to build an adventure/campaign for it. Why would a burnt out...

Chaotic Evil is never a good player choice. Like, I've never heard someone said, "My player chose Chaotic Evil and they game is going really well." I only played it once for two or three sessions. In the last session, the whole session was a 4 hour combat encounter and that's it. It wasn't even...

    Thunderstruck! Blind playthrough of Arcanum

Ok, I'm not writing this next bit narratively because a) it was a lot of FedExing which just reads poorly and b) I'm getting irked by this game. I decided to do Dernholm so I wouldn't have that damn Shrouded Hills mine quest hanging over my head. But, that lead sends me to Tarant anyway. I...
