So, I play with the item randomizer mod. Which swaps around the locations of about 100 different items in the game.

It has some kind of priority system, where the sweet loot tends to go in places where you found sweet loot in the base game. It's just not the same sweet loot you normally find there.

Anyway, I've had two runs where I was missing a key pair of gauntlets. A shaman who had gotten to cloakwood without finding the gauntlets of dexterity. And a mage/thief who had gotten all the way to the final battle without finding the gauntlets of ogre power.

Lo and behold, it turns out the gauntlets were on mutamin's body in both cases. That insane wizard with all the basilisks who turns people into statues for his personal garden. So I'll have to keep that in mind going forward that Mutamin seems to have some pretty nice items in his pool of potential loot.
I always kill Mutamin before the Nashkel Mines. There is so much experience in that area at very little risk. :)

Intresting. I would've assumed it would just spawn a new Imoen regardless of whether you'd chunked her.

Especially since the Imoen in Candlekeep has an entirely different character sheet.

If you get that Imoen to join the party using Ctrl Q, after the assassination of Gorion, the usual Imoen ALSO joins you so that you have a mage Imoen AND a thief Imoen.
I just ran that as a test. I don't know how that would pan out if you continued to play with them! I think that I might just check out the various options.
If you don't allow thief Imoen to join by heading south you will find that Mage Imoen has NO spells in her spell book and that she has an unusable small bow equipped! She has no weapon proficiencies! Upon entering Beregost , Firebead talks to her as do innkeepers and it looks as if you can play her as a party member. If you play a game with two characters with the same name, things get VERY confusing though the game seems to be able to cope better than I can.

It's interesting that Imoen in Candlekeep isn't a thief. Perhaps the devs were concerned that players would get her into their party somehow and loot Candlekeep.
If you do get her into your party at Candlekeep as a mage it would certainly cause a lot of confusion upon arrival in SoD, just as it would if you dual-classed her in BG1.
