Today CD Projekt RED announced "the next installment in The Witcher series of video games is currently in development, kicking off a new saga for the franchise".

"This is an exciting moment as we’re moving from REDengine to Unreal Engine 5, beginning a multi-year strategic partnership with Epic Games. It covers not only licensing, but technical development of Unreal Engine 5, as well as potential future versions of Unreal Engine, where relevant. We'll closely collaborate with Epic Games’ developers with the primary goal being to help tailor the engine for open-world experiences.

At this point, no further details regarding the game — such as a development time frame or release date — are available."

Kotaku has written about fan theories based on the shown medallion. A school of the Lynx?

Wow that's even wilder than the speculations about the Mass Effect teaser poster.
That's the problem with any kind of series that has been in existance for such a long time. Mods, fanfiction, headcanon, there's so much out there that it gets difficult to filter what was part of the original and what wasn't, which can also lead to wrong and later disappointed expectations and be a roadblock for acceptance of new content that deviates from those ideas.

I'm so happy RN. Just no words.

I played through the first 2 chapters of The Witcher 1 Enhanced Edition and I still remember that experience fondly. Difficult moral choices, good characters--it all was already present in the Witcher (game) world, even before The Witcher 3. Now, more people will be able to experience that, probably for the first time in their lives. Also, I'm really curious how the game will play and feel under Unreal Engine 5.

Well, one does not exclude the other - they have multiple Witcher projects in the works.

I am happy that we'll get the remake of the first game. I think it will play different to the original game. It is a remake, not remaster, which opens up the possibility fo the game getting entirely new mechanics and maybe some other elements tweaked/changed.

The saga is being developed by CD Projekt themselves. This game is being developed by the Fool's Theory team--which is made of many industry veterans, including devs who had created The Witcher 3. It's also being supervised by CD Projekt.

The original Witcher saw Geralt adventure around the Temerian capital of Vizima, a location briefly visited in The Witcher 3. While players could only access the royal castle in the third game, however, the entirety of Vizima, its outskirts, and more will be opened up in The Witcher remake.

Each of these areas was broken up as a different level in the original and, for the most part, once one had been completed players couldn't go back. With the remake though, it appears that all of these areas will be connected, and players can walk in and out of Vizima the same way they do Novigrad in The Witcher 3.

Interesting news... Accidentally, I played Witcher 1 today and was thinking whether the remake could be open-worded or not. I think some story changes need to occur if the game has to believably open world as
you spend chapter IV outside of Vyzima due to princess Adda wanting your head
. Keeping that in mind, it would be bizarre if Geralt could just do as he pleases then.

Releasing the patch for the Witcher 3 didn't go as smoothly as everyone hoped. In December and January, they made attempts to fix performance and other bugs, but it didn't help much. The work continues there:
