That sounds very nice about the costumes.

I haven't played Hellsinger much after that initial day, instead returned to Assassin's Creed: Odyssey and so far I've had a lot of fun. The Photo Mode in that game is very addicting, and sometimes I just browse through my screenshots from 2-3 weeks ago to re-live the memories of the game events.

Yeah! The halloween units are fun because you get to watch the characters play dress up basically.

But like, some of the halloween units have actual costumes and some of them just kind of wear their normal clothes with like a pumpkin sticker on their headband or something. I prefer it when they're dressed up as something rather than when they're just kind of wearing halloween themed clothes.

Lich is dressed as a ghost though. She kind of commands a bunch of ghosts in her attack animations so now she's dressed as one of her own ghostly minions. I think it's a good concept.

You can see her here

I love Warhammer 40,000 so i've been playing two of the tactics RPGs they have released in the past few years. Mechanicus, dealing with the tech-priests of the setting, and Chaos Gate Daemonhunters, which is centered on the ever-popular Space Marines.

Mechanicus is an incredible tactics RPG and a great intro to the setting. All tactics RPGs are story focused to an extent but this one even moreso. You will decide what your mission priorities are, and by extention how loyal to the Emperor's teachings you are, and I haven't beaten it yet but it's already clear this will decide the ending. There is no parallel to its gameplay that I know of, it's really quite unique.

Chaos Gate is an X-Com clone in gameplay but that is the furthest thing from a condemnation. It's tough, it rewards creativity and solid planning, and customizing your own space marines and their ridiculously gigantic armor is a huge highlight of the game.

Knock knock, heretics.

This weekend I managed to play Victoria 3 a bit. It's a strategy game released not long ago, by Paradox Interactive.

Victoria3.png

The game currently has a Mixed rating on Steam and my conclusion would most likely put it into the Mixed category as well, for its current state and especially compared to the previous Paradox game I played and enjoyed, Crusader Kings III. But still, I managed to get some fun, learned new mechanics, and made Persia the #5 country in the world by GDP. :) You start the game in 1836 and finish in 1936, trying to improve the state/country you're managing.

At the very least, the game makes you think about economical, political and social systems, what is best for the country, and why.

I'm revisiting Grim Dawn currently. I've never played a caster in that before (my last character was a sword and board tank type using Oathkeeper mastery), so this time I'm playing a wizard type using Arcanist mastery. I'm trying for a "Panetti's Replicating Missile" build. That spell seems to me to be almost surely inspired by D&D Magic Missiles. There was a similar ability in Torchlight II called "Prismatic Bolts" that was almost the same idea.

Everything I read says the Missiles build for Arcanist doesn't do well on higher difficulties, but I usually just play through Normal level of an ARP before I'm ready to play something else, and it's fun for now.

I've played a lot of ARPG's, so I have a good basis for comparison. Hands down the hardest ARPG I ever beat on Normal was Diablo II, where "hard" is measured by overall danger of dying at any point in the game. I think Grim Dawn is a very close second to that, and the aesthetic of Grim Dawn matches Diablo II, even though it's built on a similar or same engine to Titan Quest.

Titan Quest is a much brighter and more colorful looking game, though, set in a fantasy version of the ancient world including Greece, Egypt, Asia, and North Europe. Grim Dawn is set during a zombie apocalypse, and the tone is very dark, with lots of browns, blacks, sickly green, and shadowy lighting. Since I prefer a brighter aesthetic, Grim Dawn is really not my favorite ARPG by a long shot, but I'm having fun with it for now.

Grim Dawn can be very dark indeed. I have around 100 hours or so, primary playing two very different characters: One pure lightning-focused glasscannon druid (forgot the class name, shaman maybe?) and one pure summoner (necro/cultist or whatever the class names were). Great game, good fun and by far the best ARPG since D2, and I have to admit, probable even better than D2 though it pains to admit it. PoE (Path of Exile that is, not Pillars) is also a magnificent game in a way, but I felt they went a bit overboard with the levels in the end. Unfortunately most games of this type focuses so much in "end game" since that's what the craziest zealot players scream for loudly everywhere. Grim Dawn, and D2 back in the day, become the great games they are precisely for not doing that. IMHO of course, people find fun in different things and YMMW.

Personally I finished Arcanum and continued with Eu4 as usual. RTW:R RIS came out with a new patch (a historical mod to Rome total war remastered), so played that for a while too but I lose interest rather quickly nowadays. Had an itch to replay CP2077 again after watching Netflix' show, but haven't got started yet.

Getting back into Baldur's Gate.

Not really feeling it with this shaman I'm playing right now.'

In the past I've liked having a spontaneous casting support unit with a bit of a bardey edge to them. An at will dance ability, a single thief skill, some improved weapon options.

Playing right now I really just feel like the Druid Spellbook is bullshit. Like it's a great house built on a foundation of sand. Only a handful of these spells excite me and you have to play forever to unlock them.

Haven't quite landed on what character I do want to play, if not this though.

I read something interesting a while ago abut how it's actually possible to gear a wild mage to protect from almost any wild surge pretty early on.

Some protection from fire and lightning. Keep their HP at 30+. Maybe a couple other points I'm forgetting, you can survive any surge except the extreme "Roll four times and they're all bad" scenarios. So it doesn't have to be purely a matter of reloading every time surge explodifies you out of nowhere.

Plus apparently once you get stoneskin that protects you from the cow too, so then you've got even more leeway with the HP.

Seems like an interesting way of approaching the character.

Now, I play with the item randomizer, so I can't actually guarantee I'll find any of this protective gear as early as that guy's strategy laid out on paper, but it's still something to try out that I've never done before.

I like Baldur's Gate 1 more than Baldur's Gate 2. The story is very understated, leaving a lot more room to be listening to a podcast or something while you play, where BG2 kind of demands your full attention pretty frequently. Plus at this point I'm just much more familiar with BG1 than BG2. BG1 I've played through maybe dozens of times. BG2 I've never played more than the first chapter and a half maybe. BG1 has become a comfort food of sorts.

That being said, I feel like it's just a simple fact that the first three or four levels of the BG1 campaign don't exactly present you with a wealth of options with which to tackle any given problem. The game really opens up as your spellbook does.

And to be frank, that is about where I'm at in my campaign right now. Level 4, tackling cloakwood. If I can just push forward to this next level I can at least learn Charm Person or Mammal, which is something, and then at level 6 I get the better dance and Level 3 Spells. Call Lightning, Summon Insects, Strength of One, Level 6 is where the Real Shit starts happening.

How are you finding the new Pokemon?

I've seen some people complaining that it's a buggy mess, and other people saying that despite its bugs it's about as fun as any pokemon game. They've got a solid formula.
Well, by the time I started they had released a patch for the game, and I never really noticed any major bugs. I am enjoying the game a lot.

By the way, I started in Violet version.

Currently, I'm replaying the first Witcher game - I need a complete save to import it to the Witcher II, and then to import Witcher II save for Next-gen version of the Witcher III. As I play recently, my approach is rather slow but meticulous. That allows me to really appreciate some details, mainly character-wise and story-wise. Though I cannot deny that the game has aged, quite a lot.

I can't forget to mention the fact that the new jacket for Geralt costs 5000 orens, when most side quests so far pay in range 100 to 300. The game provides a "broke Witcher experience" quite well

But overall, I'm having a great time. So far I only regret not installing the Full Combat Rebalance mod. Oh well, maybe next time.

Really enjoying the thief thing right now. I got to the thieves guild questline in BG1 and I forgot how much flavor there is for the thieves.

Using Neera as my mage, and I'm kind of back to hating on wild magic. I just need my spells to do what they're supposed to do when I'm trying to do it. I don't need to cast sleep on this encroaching army and discover that somebody's itchy instead.

So I'm thinking I'm gonna switch to mage/thief. Do my own mage-ing and cut Neera out of the picture.

Got a wand of fire really early in this mage/thief run. Dropped off Silke, Thespian Extraordinaire. On my shaman run I literally didn't get one until cloakwood. You don't realize how much you rely on those wands to smooth over the early game difficulty until you don't have them. This fire wand only has 8 charges though so I'm gonna have to make them count.
