I would say that dualling at 6 sounds more reasonable for SoD and BG2 (an extra proficiency, more HPs). To get to Cleric 7, you'll need 55,000 XP in the Cleric class (plus 32,000 XP in the Fighter class), it should be possible to do that when reaching the BG city (especially if you play with fewer than 6 characters).

Any major guide will recommend dualling a fighter at 7 (due to the extra 1/2 attack), but for you, it'll mean you'll unlock the dual-class only in SoD (110,000 XP for the Cleric class, plus 64,000 XP for the Fighter class). If you're ready to play through the whole BG1 as a fighter and then as a single-class cleric with the maximum level of 7, then you can do that, ofc.

I don't know if you have read mu Weidu log which states that I have The Drizzt Saga, Dark Horizons and other quest mods installed. Do those mods make a significant impact such as to alter your thoughts on the matter?

Now my new hard drive has arrived I am also considering adding NTotSC DSotSC Stone of Askavaar, The Grey Clan Episode too.

With additional mods, comes more XP, and at the same time, more difficulty? But it all comes down to whether or not you're respecting the 161k XP cap for BG1. If you haven't changed the XP cap, the 6th lvl advice would still apply.

I have now installed BG1, Dragonsphere, SOA and TOB on my new drive.

I have installed the following mods on BG1 and intend to start installing EET for the first time. I am wondering if with the current mods there would be any problems. Weidu log attached.

If OK, tomorrow I will list the mods that I intend to add, mainly a few NPC mods as I don't know BG2 well enough to want to add many mods. That can come later.

EDIT

I tried to start the installation of EET and it failed at the first hurdle. It didn't recognise BGQE the very first mod. I was following this installation found on the web and had just installed the mods shown on Weidu.txt below. I was following the advice found on EET INSTALL VERSION 5 attached below. Lack of Beamdog forum is very frustrating as the answer could be there already. Any suggestions welcomed.

Hey there, hi there, everyone!

I'm a long time no reload player from the old BioWare forums. I took a 6 year break from the game, but I recently started posting again over at Beamdog. I'm considering cross posting here. Is there any interest?

Cheers,

A.

I'm definitely interested to see your no-reload runs here. I'm not that often on Beamdog these days, switching to Tavern RPG instead. There's definitely a warm, cosy place here for BG no-reloaders ;)

Welcome!

Of course we're interested, I used to follow the no-reload thread in the past, even if I didn't make it further than BG1 final battle myself! Like some of us I moved on for the most part from the Beamdog Forum after the migration, but while your most active part there was before my time, obviously your name is in the history book!

We have neglected this thread since the last active no-reloader moved back to BD Forum, but if cross-posting is indeed happening, I'll make sure to update the Hall of Heroes, because @Enuhal in particular has been busy...

It would be cool to see more activity here again, it's a great tradition!

Thanks for the warm welcome! Glad to hear there's interest!

I and four other BioWare alums recently started a set of runs together at Beamdog. We debated cross posting here but ultimately passed due to the extra work involved. The idea stuck with me, though, simply because I like the vibe here. It seems like a warm and welcoming place.

I'm currently running a solo Halfling thief, named Ayla, in a SCS Ascension install. She's about halfway through SoA, currently at level 21. The run is only on Tactical, and it's really just a warmup for me as I re-acquaint myself with the game, following my extended break. I'll forgo cross posting that run but I do intend to share my next run in this forum.

In the interim, I'd encourage anyone and everyone who has been thinking about posting here to get started! Also, if there's anyone out there who is new to NR play, feel free to ask questions. I expect to start my first run here in about two weeks, possibly sooner if Ayla meets an untimely end, lol.

Once again, thanks for the warm welcome. I look forward to posting in the future!

Best,

A.

Thanks for your kind words, @Alesia_BH. A lot of work has been put in (and is being put in every day by many people) so that this site exists and its community develops further. In the time when everyone uses Twitter and Discord, or Reddit, we wanted something more old-school, something that allows discussions to stay for many years, something that recreates the magic from old BioWare and Beamdog forums. It's people, though, who are real treasures. I hope you can make new friends here, and other "BioWare alums" (and not only them) follow.

Amara, Halfling Swashbuckler: Introduction

Ok, everyone! I'm ready to get started. Meet my first character here at Tavern RPG: Amara, Halfling Swashbuckler.

1.jpg

2.jpg

Proficiencies: Daggers, Darts

Mods: SCS 34.3, Ascension, G3 Fixpack- FreeAction Protects Against Stun

Difficulty: Hardcore (All tactical components, most nerfs, no Icewind Dale spells)

Gaming Notes: As some of you may know, my most recent character on the Beamdog forums, Ayla, died by inventory management at level 27, insta-killed on the Spellhold bridge while trying to return to Brynnlaw to pick up an item. It was a sad story, but it may have been for the best. Ayla was a fine character, and her run did serve its purpose of helping me re-familiarize myself with the game after my six year break. That said, her adventure wasn't entirely satisfying from a gameplay perspective. Ayla used aggressive rogue tactics that were ill suited to the modest difficulty setting she was playing on. With Amara I hope to leverage what I recently learned with Ayla while redressing some of the aspects of Ayla's run that I found less than satisfying. Accordingly, Amara will be playing on hardcore and will be operating under additional restrictions. This should make Amara's adventure richer and more tactically interesting. In any case, I hope you'll enjoy her. I do look forward to playing her.

Character Description: I often compose a description for my characters. Amara has insisted on writing that description herself. I'm not surprised. She's irrepressible. And so here she is, in her own world. Please forgive her flair for the dramatic. It's who she is.

“Fantasy has a way of becoming reality. How many times have you seen in your mind’s eye a path you would soon walk? Do the fates touch our visions, hinting at our destiny? Or do we the dreamers turn our imaginings to truth, guided by a hunger to be?

It’s a good question. Alas, I have no answers. I am a wit, not a philosopher; a woman of action, not of knowledge. And even if I did have an answer, what would it matter? Answers are final. They disappoint. It’s the game of asking that intrigues.

And so I ask of you this: Can you imagine a halfling whose dreams aren’t bound by home? Can you imagine a halfling bold and free, daring and brave? Can you imagine a halfling making her mark on the Sword Coast- not as a footnote or a sidekick but as a legend in her own right, a hero true? If so -if you can imagine these things- then you, my friends, can imagine me. I, Amara Lightfoot, am the reality to your visions. I will not disappoint.”

Amara Lightfoot, DR 1368

Personal Item: Swish-Swash

The library fortress of Candlekeep never suited Amara, but her imagination took flight within its stacks. Amara spent her youth devouring tales of adventure and often re-enacted scenes, standing atop her bed, watching herself in her mirror. Amara’s buckler, Swish-Swash, was a key prop, wielded alongside a wooden sword, fancifully dubbed Rascal.

Rascal is by now long lost, a plaything of youth. But Swish-Swash, a modest yet viable tool of combat, remains with Amara to this day. In anyone else’s hands, Swish-Swash would function like a normal buckler. Amara, however, derives confidence and aplomb from the comfort of her childhood companion, aiding her in all her endeavors. Amara also has a preternatural sense of Swish-Swash's dimensions and balance, stemming from years of childhood play. For her and her alone it functions more like a small shield than a buckler.

AC + 1
Luck + 1

Usable by Amara

NW: My characters occasionally receive a personal item, modeled after those granted to in game NPCs. While they are designed to be tactically relevant, their primary purpose is to enhance to the role playing experience. I've found that I play and write better when I have a connection to my character. The character descriptions and personal items help with that.
