ps. Bah, dead again!

The Ketheric fight was super obnoxious...

Aylin just seems absolutely worthless in honour mode! I really couldn't be more disappointed in her right now lol.

Dame's contribution to the battle was to basically lie on the floor the whole time, alas. She didn't even cause a distraction.

I wish I had just cheesed the fight with the with fucking witch bolt now, but I don't really trust myself to be gaming stuff outside initiative in the wonky fake real time. I think I would try it for this fight though, just to get past it. Damn! And it was going so well too!

Myrkul's legendary ability is beyond absurd. I almost had him legit, once again, with the early crush, but then he spawned another dozen necromites at the last second and healed himself for like 120 hp in a single round! Just death ray'd everybody at go.

I wanted to punk him so bad, but it's pretty much down to the one roll. Like if you can't get him to bow down, seems like it's just designed to TKP our adventurers with no mercy lol.

Oh well, better luck next time I guess...

It's interesting because the fight never seemed difficult to me. But probably that is because it was a normal playthrough in terms of exploring everything, so even the Tactician didn't bring any challenge - the characters were overleveled and overstacked with items for the fight.

I guess the biggest threat of the Honour mode is that you don't do all the content due to risks and also because it's your XXth playthrough, you don't need to see everything, and that's why you arrive a bit understacked for that battle.

And yeah, that Dame is totally useless in the fight.

I'm not entirely sure if some stuff maybe was added in patch 5 as just part of the base tactician difficulty or it's the honor mode setting that does it, but yeah, there's definitely a few surprises! It's actually a great battle, so I kinda look forward to it, but it also just takes so damn long to get there in this mode.

The first time I faught him, I actually had to face Ketheric twice, as Myrkul did some kind of instant rez move. So basically kill Ketheric once, then you just have to kill him again while also facing the Avatar at the same time. That was pretty rough.

I think you just gotta get on on him super quick with the one shot, cause otherwise its pretty ridiculous. I thought I was coasting cause I had a pattern going where I was just killing all the incubators and still had Jaheira to nail him call lightning, but then he did the ray of fear ray of death thing and sucked us all in to just wipe the room again.

It's mostly my party comp trying to have Shadowheart do funny shapechange stuff. I find that's where the replay entertainment comes in for me. It's better if she's just a straight up cleric I bet. I saw the speed run where dude just nailed him like 100 times to fry before the battle begins, but I think you need to solo to pull that off, cause otherwise he'll just run down and pull everyone into initiative regardless. I was kinda more into throwing up my dukes with a bunch of summons and double hasted owlbears which came close, but kind of a tall order at lvl 8 maybe. Next time I'll grind it out in the Shadowlands a bit more I guess. We let the Githyanki teenagers live, so we wouldn't piss off Lae'zel too much, and I didn't get the Blood of Lathander cause of our crazy escape from the Inquistor, which would probably have come in handy too I suppose.

It's good stuff though. Reason to keep trying again hehe

From what I understood from patch notes, Larian gave bosses additional Legendary actions, so they definitely tuned them up a little.

Yeah I mean I could tell pretty early on, (at least if they did it right), that I'd probably be playing BG3 for the next decade. Like basically the same way I played BG1 and BG2 to death over and over and over haha. For that it's nice to have some sort of high-score type thing to shoot for. It reminds me of arcade games, trying to stretch a couple quarters as far as they can go.

In that respect I'm very pleased that they made another difficulty mode that was still party based and built into the core game, with silly things like achievements or dice skins and such. I think doing a lone wolf could also be fun, and might be more straight forward in some encounters, but there are also so many ways to approach party composition and companion builds that I'm happy they figured out a way to still keep that engaging for the group.

Mostly Honour Mode makes the in-game economy much tighter and encourages a more risk averse style of play from me, but then I'm also trying to roll as a fairly squishy sorcerer and a happy bouncy Owlbear lol. Probably a Paladin could have given Ketheric a taste of his own medicine there maybe, or I bet Minthara would have handled his ass! I'm going to prioritize rescuing her this time for sure hehe.

I can also imagine it being somewhat simpler as a more rogue-ish class perhaps, like someone who can steal everything not nailed down, cause it makes a difference if you can afford the good gear instead of burning the cash on resurrection, and also cause then you can game out of initiative if you're sneaky. Like Astarion as an assassin was pretty insane. We should have kept him in the mix over Jaheira probably, but I got excited. Go figure! lol

One of the challenges for the Dark Urge, is that it locks you into a custom background "Haunted One" which takes some background builds off the table. Also if trying to resist the urge, you'll have to give up some of the more powerful boons. The Mantle is really useful for example, since it turns you invisible anytime you manage to kill someone, which is very powerful for keeping a squishy Durge alive. The next boon has you giving up a lot though, and harder to explain away as a Good Durge.

Speaking of Wolves though, I wish there was a more compelling higher level Wolf form! You know like a Dire Wolf or whatever. I can't really see a reason to use anything other than the Owlbear form, or an Air Myrmidon maybe, but you don't get that one for a hot minute. Sabre Toothed Tiger is alright, but it's pretty much Owlbear or bust as a druid for most fights. I always preferred caster Druids or a summoner archetype over a shape-changer, but the 5e/BG3 version definitely favors fighting while wild shaped as a Druid, so I wish there were more forms that could actually compete with the Owlbear there. I didn't find tavern brawler all that impressive for Jaheira. It gives +1 to Con and doubles the damage/to hit with the unarmed strikes (like for the claws there) which I guess is cool, but again, pretty much all wild shape all day there. Next time I'd probably just do ASI and Warcaster again, but thought I'd try it out just to see. We'll have to come up with a new plan now!
