That's great to hear! And you should certainly consider trying them out one day - they're loads of fun, even though you eventually might find their special traps slightly overpowered in the context of BG1.
Can I recommend to you trying a character who dislikes getting blood on his hands. You have to be quite innovative, but it's fun.

Does that mean that they are VERY overpowered?
In the early game, yes. Like many kit powers the special snares weren't rebalanced for BG1. By the time you get to the end game they make sense. Early on you just toss them and, like, everything dies.

Journal of Jarlaxle

The Ice Island wasn't a challenge. Neither were the upper floors of Durlag's.

Then the hasted doppelgangers targeted Baeloth and he didn't have the speed to get away. Had to return to the temple to raise him. As the saying goes: "I'll be back!"

Ryland (human blade @Borco) & Kalam (halfling assassin), multiplayer run: Part 12 - Irenicus Dungeon 1

After the fall of Sarevok, Ryland and Kalam barely had time to celebrate their victory before darkness closed in around them. Whatever triumph they’d earned in the depths of Baldur’s Gate was stolen overnight — replaced by chains, cold stone, and the sound of distant screams.

Ryland didn’t know how long he’d been drifting in and out of consciousness when he heard a soft click echo through the cell. The heavy door creaked open and there was Kalam, lantern in one hand, lockpicks in the other, and that familiar grin on his face.

“Wake up, you! Wake up! Come on, we have to get out of here.”

Ryland wasn’t even sure who was talking to him at first — just a voice cutting through the pounding in his skull — but thankfully his head cleared fast enough to push himself upright. He met Kalam’s grin with a tired smirk of his own. Time to leave this hole behind.

Kalam slipped into the shadows to scout ahead and spotted a group of nasty-looking dwarves lurking in the dark. He crept back to Ryland and whispered, “There’s some seriously evil-looking dwarves up ahead, buddy. We’ll have to deal with them from a distance — we’ve got no gear.”

Ryland didn’t argue — he was just as eager to get out of this place. He stepped forward and lobbed a fireball straight into the group. With the dwarves taken care of, they grabbed a crossbow and some bolts from the bodies and pressed on:

A bit deeper in, Kalam found another band of duergar. Deciding it was his turn to pull his weight, he crept in for a perfect backstab — or so he thought. He missed, and suddenly they were sprinting back toward the cages while Ryland hurled spells and Kalam ran circles around the dwarves. It took a while, but the second band finally fell:

Another group waited up ahead — and another backstab attempt went sideways. This time the dwarf was conveniently staring right at the door, leaving Kalam no chance to sneak behind him. So, once again, it was back to the cages for some more cat-and-mouse until the dwarves dropped:

The next group went down much smoother. Ryland threw out a Web spell and Kalam, now also armed with a bit more ammo, picked them off with ease:

After speaking with the Dryads, our heroes agreed to look for this Ilyich fellow. Unfortunately, the path was blocked by a hulking monster that shrugged off every ranged attack they tried. For a moment they seriously considered ditching the Dryads and making a run for it — but in the end, their conscience won out.

Knowing brute force wouldn’t cut it, Kalam dipped his arrows in poison and hoped for the best. Luck was on his side — the poison worked, and 'after a tense fight' the beast finally fell:

Another Web and a well-placed Fireball took care of most of the next group standing in their way:

But then he showed up:
0.jpg
With a well-aimed backstab and Ryland’s magic blasting from behind, even Peter Nalitch — better known here as Ilyich — was sent to meet his maker before he could take out his guitar and take our friends to his boudoir:

Unfortunately, Kalam’s curiosity has always been stronger than his wisdom (not that he needed much curiosity for that). Spotting a cluster of buttons and levers, he muttered, “What does this button do?” Well — it unleashed a towering demon that hit like a siege weapon. It took ages and a whole lot of hit-and-run, but once again, a backstab plus Ryland’s magic did the trick:

Before they descended to the next floor, they freed a Genie from its prison. Kalam argued bitterly, his gut twisting with old, half-remembered grudges against flasks and trickster spirits — as if from another life entirely. But Ryland’s will won out:

Exhausted from all the running, stabbing, and dodging dwarves, they finally decided to rest. Ryland caught a few hours of sleep first while Kalam kept watch, then they switched shifts so Kalam could catch a nap too:

Ryland (human blade @Borco) & Kalam (halfling assassin), multiplayer run: Part 13 - Irenicus Dungeon 2

After grabbing a bit of rest, Kalam and Ryland quickly realized the tunnels weren’t done with them yet — fresh duergar showed up to investigate where their last patrols had mysteriously vanished. Well, back to the cages it was. Ryland threw out another trusty Web to keep the new patrol pinned down:
Baldur_s Gate II - Enhanced Edition - v2.6.6.0 09_07_2025 21_08_19.jpg
It should have been easy by now— but when the alarm went up, it pulled in yet another band of duergar they’d completely forgotten about in the tunnels before. With nowhere to stand, Kalam and Ryland had to retreat all the way back to the Dryads. They shouted for help — hoping the forest spirits might lift a finger. But the Dryads just watched in silence, like it was some grim show for their amusement. Fortunately, after a lot more running (again), the last of the dwarves finally dropped:

While catching his breath, Kalam spotted a few Golems standing ominously still. Just in case they came to life, he set a few traps around them — better paranoid than flattened:
Baldur_s Gate II - Enhanced Edition - v2.6.6.0 09_07_2025 21_16_05.jpg
Next up was the portal leading to the second level — and of course, more duergar were there, probably wondering why all their friends hadn’t come back. A quick Grease spell and more frantic running later, even that squad was cleared out:

Feeling bold, Kalam decided to check out a fancy-looking room nearby. He crept in, smooth as ever, scanning for traps — but unfortunately, their adventures so far hadn’t turned him into a master trap disarmer. A nasty surprise almost took him out on the spot:
Baldur_s Gate II - Enhanced Edition - v2.6.6.0 09_07_2025 21_25_34.jpg
Gritting his teeth, Kalam emptied a healing potion down his throat, grabbed what he could from the main chest, and limped back to Ryland. He didn’t get far before the Golems — the ones he’d so wisely trapped for — decided his traps meant nothing. They came for him in silence, each footstep like thunder. Kalam had to crack open an Oil of Speed just to stay ahead of the stone fists closing in:

Baldur_s Gate II - Enhanced Edition - v2.6.6.0 09_07_2025 21_26_52.jpg
When they finally made it to the second level, Ryland didn’t waste time. Sick of being cornered like rats, he wove his protections and stormed the first room in a blaze of magic. By the time Kalam caught up, Ryland had already blasted most of the Mephit Portals to cinders:

Baldur_s Gate II - Enhanced Edition - v2.6.6.0 09_07_2025 21_30_19.jpg
Further in, Kalam found yet another nest of duergar. Ryland didn’t hesitate — he lobbed a fireball right into their teeth. But it wasn’t enough to end them clean, so it turned into another ugly dance of blades and bolts in the dark. Ryland froze one in place with a Hold spell while Kalam worked him down from a distance, arrow after arrow:

Another band showed up — and naturally, another retreat. This time there was even a bit of friendly fire in the chaos, because what’s a prison break without that:

Finally — finally — the last group of duergar (and they really, truly hoped it was the last) fell to a good old Wand of Cloudkill:
Baldur_s Gate II - Enhanced Edition - v2.6.6.0 09_07_2025 21_43_58.jpg
After all that, they stumbled on some bloated, oily bastard begging to be freed. One look was enough, they couldn't let this creep follow them behind their back. Kalam and Ryland shared a glance, nodded once, and said in perfect unison, “Let’s get the hell out of here.”

We both usually rest at the start of 2nd floor, and we will probably do so again from now on. Respawning Duegar make this much harder, especially when you are a thief and bard and criticals really hurt. Lesson learned. On the other hand, we had so much fun in this dungeon that those extra dwarfs and all the running was worth it. TBH I don't think I have ever enjoyed fighting those dwarves (or goblins before SCS) in here that much before.

We had a seriously close call with that trap on 1st floor, probably not that wise to ignore find traps skill. But even though Kalam would have died, we believed Ryland would somehow make it and resurrect Kalam after getting out.

It's probably the close calls that made it more enjoyable. :)

Meanwhile Jarlaxle and party have dealt with the warders. Traps killed two of them and summoned skeletons helped with the others. We returned to ground level to rest.

My bag of holding is getting full. I'll have to do quite a lot of selling when we get out of here. I've already had to dump a lot of ammo.

I've never had such an easy time against Dwarven Doom Guards. The benefit of leaving Durlag's until a bit later. More of a problem was the fact that Artemis spotted a trap a fraction of a second too late with the result that the clerics were quite busy for a while. Due to using clerics for healing, we are amassing quite a collection of healing potions.

The Ashirukuru backstabbed Viconia and hurt her badly before we were able to retaliate.

Baldr135.jpg

A second Ashirukuru aidedd by a greater ghoul was more of a problem. First Viconia was killed and then so was Jarlaxle himself. Used elexir of health, potion of extra healing and ettin's wand, but still kept losing health!!

Journal of Edwin Odesseiron II

My parents were so content with their first son Edwin that when he left home, they missed him so much that they chose to have another son -me.

They even gave me the same name, and it looks as if I may well follow the same path.

I was fortunate enough to have even better starting abilities than he,

I was petrified when I was attacked by assassins far more powerful than I. Fortunately the watchers were able to help me.

But wouldn't that be...blasphemy? I mean being a child of Bhaal and all that. Anyway, I've yet to explore innovative ways of killing stuff, so I don't think I have the mental capacity to start thinking about innovative ways of not doing so, lol.

The sort of things that I did was to lure Greywolf to the mines so the guards killed him. Lure the hobgoblins to the gates of the FAI so they got killed by the guards there, thus getting Joia's ring. In the mines using Algernon's cloak to charm Mulahey's summoned monsters and letting them kill him. etc. etc. My favourite weapon was FISTS! Against Davaeorn I charmed HIM, so that he got killed by the Battle Horrors.

It was amusing. However, it did mean that I had very little experience to take to Amn.

Edric, human bounty hunter: Part 2

Our primary goal for the session was to gain some extra muscle before moving on with the main plotline. And I'm sure you all know what that means. Yum, yum.

1753703552111.jpeg

Navigating Korax through the Basiliskville under stealth allowed Edric to reach level 6 with approx. 35k XP, which means that he can now backstab at 3x and is capable of setting four snares per day in total (2 normal + 2 special). For the record, Mutamin caused minimum delay and zero trouble.
1753703566898.jpeg
1753703570766.jpeg
1753703577839.jpeg
When we were finished with the beasties, Korax complained that he was still so veeery hungry.
1753703639323.jpeg
I mean, come on, you just had like an entire tasting menu - organic free range lizards, a chubby gnome as the main course, that's a proper culinary experience. If you're a ghoul, that is.

You're saying that you'd like to have a small dessert? That's fine with us then. If it's not Edric, that is. Actually, you know what? There's a diner nearby - Kirian's Buffet. The staff's mean, but the prices are okay and it's 24/7. You should give it a try. And don't worry, we'll cover you with one of our special traps while you take your order. Bon appétit!
1753703676364.jpeg
1753703680166.jpeg
1753703687053.jpeg
In the end, Korax's snacking attempt didn't exactly work out. Sorry about that, pal.
1753703692310.jpeg
The good thing, however, was that Edric now had the party served on a silver plate. Kirian, slowed and bruised, wandered off the main group and walked straight into one of our traps in the area.
1753703698135.jpeg
Using his ranged AC advantage and superior damage output, Edric then pummeled Baerin with his throwing knives until we saw a window of opportunity to finish him with a backstab.
1753703703139.jpeg
1753703706105.jpeg
The cleric remained to be a threat, so we tried to stay out of his sight but also kept our potions ready in case of an emergency. Using stealth, Edric managed to separate Lindin and draw him towards the rock formations where we had him murdered with repeated backstabs. His plate mail was of little help against our fast piercing weapon.
1753703713739.jpeg
By keeping him at the very edge of his sight, Edric then patiently lured Peter towards his two remaining snares that he had prepared the day before. He fell without being able to cast a single offensive spell, thus preserving our defensive potions for later use.
1753703723973.jpeg
1753703726154.jpeg
Onto Edric's appointment with Meilum. Killing him entirely with traps was admittedly lazy and equally lame, but we just wanted to grab his gloves and move on. He can sue us if he wants, but we'll likely be on the other side of the Cloak Peaks by the time the case's closed anyway.
1753703739611.jpeg
Certain contents of our shopping list then required us to drive all the way to Ulgoth's Beard, only stopping to refuel and raise our reputation to 19 in fishing village north of FAI by braving the ankheg lair. Using his special traps to slow them down before finishing them in melee, Edric took out two ankhegs, reached the treasure hoard, and reported back to Brun. I usually hate dragging around bodies in BG1, so being able to complete the quest without a STR buff was certainly a pleasant side effect of Edric's high base strength.
1753703760266.jpeg
1753703764236.jpeg
1753703771052.jpeg
With the Cloak of Displacement, the Greenstone Amulet, and a stack of Darts of Stunning secured, and a ProPetrification scroll already stored in our scroll case from earlier, we finalized our preparations for the upcoming trip to Durlag's Tower by stocking up on Potions of Mind Focusing in FAI, fire resistance potions + scroll from High Hedge, and thieving potions from Erdane.

The two battle horrors outside the tower were cut down with a sequence of backstabs, with the occasional Wand of Magic Missile charge thrown in as a finisher.
1753703806882.jpeg
1753703814488.jpeg
Edric then entered the second floor, backstabbed the lone ghast in its southern section, removed the Chromatic Orb trap, applied his ProPetrification scroll, and proceeded to clear the four basilisks on the rooftop with traps and yet more backstabs.
1753703823630.jpeg
1753703837815.jpeg
Lizard carpet, anyone?
1753703848524.jpeg
By reaching level 8, Edric earned his fourth proficiency pip (shortbows) and raised his Find Traps score to 65, which will provide a sufficient basis for reaching 100 with Potion of Mind Focusing + Potion of Perception. Additionally, by adding the Potion of Master Thievery on top of these, Edric would also be able to reach 100 Open Locks despite not having invested a single point into OL. With that set-up, we were ready for the big heist, but first we decided to hunt down all the ghasts inside the tower.
1753703868782.jpeg
1753703877056.jpeg
After looting the Rashad's Talon and all chests in the tower interior, we applied a green ProFire scroll and descended into the first level of the dungeon where more goodies awaited us in locked containers beyond countless traps.
1753703883684.jpeg
1753703888563.jpeg
1753703964552.jpeg
1753703971123.jpeg
With our inventory desperately full, we departed for Beregost to cash in the accumulated loot and store our newly acquired Arrows of Dispelling (2x) and Arrows of Detonation (2x) for later use. I'll cover the final stage of our pre-Mulahey preparations in the next post.

Regards,

B.

If you play a good character such as a Paladin, it becomes clear that your task is to overcome the taint of Bhaal's blood in your veins. :)

No doubt, if you play an evil character, that is NOT the case.

Journal of Edwin

At Beregost I calmed down Marl and took a tome to Firebead. I then bought some spells at High Hedge. Sadly I failed to memorise magic missile.

I headed for the FAI and was badly injured by gibberlings. Nevertheless, I survived and found a useful ring there. R&R was the order of the day.

Nearby I had a difficult battle with two hobgoblins but prevailed. Imagine my delight upon finding that they carried a blindness and a magic missile scroll, both of which I was able to memorise. I then rested.

I used up all my spells on another hobgoblin and had to rest AGAIN! Being a solo level 1 mage is NOT easy.

In the next battle I stumbled upon three hobgoblins. I charmed one and he kept the others occupied while I killed one with magic missiles and wounded the other.

The charmed one got badly injured and fled, but he had done enough for me to be able to kill his assailant. Finally I threw daggers at the charmed hobgoblin to finish him off.
One of them was carrying a shield spell which I memorised. :)
Time for bed again!

I then slew two chickens and two cows after which I was able to level up. :)

I then rested again, but now the number of spells that I have is more substantial, admittedly with only level 1 spells..

Those spells were sufficient to kill two ogrillon south of Beregost.

I delivered the letter to Mirianne.

Headed south to Beregost getting the charisma increasing rinng in the process.

At the carnival I slept, memorising 2 blindneess spells in the process.

I went south and encountered Zargos Flintblade. I cast blindness and he made the save. Had a second try and succeeded. That enabled me to kill him. Time to return to the carnival and rest.

When fighting Greywolf he nearly killed me so I fled to the carnival.

Upon returning I blinded him and using wands and daggers killed him reaching level 3 in the process.

Foolishly I then took on Zordral without first learning some level 2 spells.

He won!

I thought that it would be interesting to play an enchantress as she would not have a lot of my commonly used spells.
Quite a steep learning curve.
She's a drow and has a drow robe and staff.
I used my trusty staff to great effect against an assassin. It is only usable by the evil.
I then used my beauty, seductive powers and friends spell which resulted in me being given a dagger +1 for delivering some bolts and 20gp for delivering a sword. I'll never use the dagger, but I may get a good price for it.
I used blindness to make the battle against another assassin trivial.
I love the portrait.

Edric, human bounty hunter: Part 3

The last missing pieces in Edric's inventory to facilitate smooth sailing going forward were the luxury accessories, some of which came with eye-wateringly high price tags. The talk isn't about a Patek Philippe, but mainly about the Claw and the Sandthief's Ring (as well as some of the cheaper jewellery available at the Nashkel carnival, like the Necklace of Missiles and the Shield Amulet).

Even though Edric's recent visit to the Durlag's Tower had already earned us quite a fortune, we were still running low on budget to afford them all. So the task ahead was clear - to earn more money. And what do bounty hunters do to earn money? Correct, they hunt down other bounty hunters and sell their weapons for scrap.
1753773792751.jpeg
1753773804622.jpeg
1753773808159.jpeg
1753773810266.jpeg
In a perfect world, Edric would love to do more of the actual bounty hunting rather than just killing his competition, if only the pay here was adequate. But never mind that, there were other opportunities. Like Sendai for instance.
1753773818828.jpeg
With her studded leather +2, and two reasonably competent archers at her side, she can be a challenging opponent for a helmet-less rogue that relies exclusively on swinging piercing weapons and ranged combat. Unless that rogue happens to be a bounty hunter with a special trap that can instantly kill one of the archers and slow down the survivors, who in turn become easy pickings for hit-and-run backstabs.
1753773824314.jpeg
1753773826795.jpeg
1753773828857.jpeg
Zal and Vax received a similar treatment, albeit sans the special trap.
1753773835311.jpeg
Seemingly successful strategies don't exactly incentivize innovation, so when it came to Caldo and Krumm, Edric just recycled the same old trick once again.
1753773843062.jpeg
1753773846480.jpeg
Copy-paste for Hairtooth and Gnarl, although we did finish them with a thrown dagger to add some variety.
1753773853144.jpeg
1753773856461.jpeg
With the funding secured, it was time to collect the Manual of Bodily Health in order to turn Edric into a proper Claw wearer with 18 CON. Taking a fast-in fast-out approach, we reached the cave by avoiding the sirines under stealth, disarmed the traps inside, and removed the flesh golems with traps and +1 arrows.
1753773869794.jpeg
1753773875879.jpeg
1753773883809.jpeg
Once the tome was ours, we rushed to High Hedge to have it deciphered by Thalantyr with his Rosetta Stone. It turned out to contain some cool workouts, not-so-revolutionary diet tips, and a motivational foreword by some Austrian guy, among others. It was a good read.
1753773890825.jpeg
After purchasing the Claw, the bulk of our remaining funds was splashed on the Sandthief's Ring. Coming at 18.3k GP and with only 7 charges, this thing a major rip-off. We still needed it, but we felt robbed. Eventually, Edric decided to claim compensation by pickpocketing Hurgan and Dushai under Mind Focusing + Master Thievery + Perception.

A failed pickpocket on Shandalar a little while later caused a brief moment of panic, but Edric kept his aura clear and managed to quaff an emergency PoI before the mage could retaliate. It would really suck to get teleported to a desolate icy dungeon full of mages instead of finally being able to dip our toes into the Iron Crisis.

Back in Nashkel, the emeralds that we had recovered from Prism earlier were eventually delivered to Oublek as per the contract. Hm, 300 gp. Right. There you go kids, this is what paying taxes feels like. As you can see, not even a seasoned bounty hunter can escape a chunky stamp duty on his earnings.

We checked out at the carnival after adding the Necklace of Missiles and the Shield Amulet into our gem bag and were ready to hit the mines.

Edric, human bounty hunter: Part 4

Just a quick note on Edric's game to cover the Nashkel mines. And apologies for the sparse coverage, but I've got some serious catching up to do with both Edric and Ryland & Kalam.

Since we didn’t want to fight a single kobold here unless absolutely necessary, Edric quaffed one of his Potions of Perception and dived into the shadows before moving into the deeper levels.

1753800522213.jpeg
He then navigated through the rest of mines undetected until he could reach Mulahey, only stopping to disarm the two traps at one of the bridges.

1753800621374.jpeg
Prior to the battle inside the cavern, Edric prepared three traps - two normal snares for the kobolds and one special trap which got tossed as close as possible to Mulahey without revealing ourselves.

Wearing the Ring of Free Action, we decided to rely solely on the green ProUndead scroll in terms of our pre-buffs. But what about Greater Command or Rigid Thinking, you might ask. Well, these are certainly very relevant threats. In fact, due to his poor saving throws and the unavailability of Greenstone Amulet until the second half of SoA, Greater Command (alongside its arcane counterpart - Emotion: Hopelessness) will continue to be a headache for Edric for a long time in the future. For this particular encounter, however, we decided to skip the Greenstone Amulet as I haven't seen a single Greater Command from Mulahey yet (neither in my current install nor previous ones). In case we were fighting someone like Bassilus for example, we would surely want to do it under sleep immunity. I appreciate that this was not without risks, but I do have Edric's informed refusal in writing to exculpate me.

Once the preparations were complete, Edric opened with a backstab.
1753801936220.jpeg
This triggered a chain reaction whereby the incoming kobold reinforcements were swept away by our two traps while Mulahey got caught in Edric's special trap and slowed down. Although his summoned skeletons survived the initial trap damage, the worst they could do would be to block our movement across the field. The smaller kobolds group in the northern section of the cave remained intact.

Slowed and bruised, the priest stood his ground and kept fighting. Upon seeing him initiate a necromancy incantation, Edric activated his Sandthief's Ring and disappeared under invisibility to avoid what we anticipated to be an incoming Poison spell.
1753801966876.jpeg
1753801972077.jpeg
Edric quickly repositioned himself behind Mulahey's back before his remaining bodyguards could escort him away and, after taking the time to switch his Girdle of Bluntness for the Girdle of Piercing, broke his invisibility by landing the second backstab which turned out to be fatal.
1753804388136.jpeg
With no incentive to bother ourselves with the rest of the kobolds, Edric grabbed the loot, disappeared into the shadows at the first opportunity, and escaped to the surface.
1753804391957.jpeg
Thanks to the active ProUndead, raiding the tombs and executing the Revenant was a no-brainer.
1753804404012.jpeg
Back in Nashkel, Nimbul hit the wall of Edric's defensive buffs via Greenstone and Shield amulets and was taken out by a combination of melee attacks + trap damage.
1753804431363.jpeg
1753804434249.jpeg
1753804439005.jpeg
Moving on north to Beregost, Tranzig joined the body count after getting caught in one of Edric's tossed special traps and catching a follow-up backstab.
1753804448894.jpeg
1753804451308.jpeg
And finally, Silke. Despite making her save against Edric's opening Dart of Stunning, her MIs failed to stop our snare - this was sufficient to finish her before she could endanger our potion collection with any offensive spells.

Journal of Adin

I was badly injured by gibberlings and a wolf as I went for the ring of protection on the way to the FAI.

However, I escaped, picked up the ring of wizardry and rested. Using blindness, charm and sleep, I killed the hobgoblins, gaining useful scrolls in the process.

Then, further south I blinded the ogre with the belts and slew him.

As I went to pick up the belts, I was spotted by the caravan robbers. I cast sleep after which they all succumbed,

I headed to the temple area and killed a wolf after which I reached level 3. I went to Beregost to sleep and now have mirror image available when needed.

I need more level 2 scrolls but due to penury cannot afford them. :(

I headed south of Nashkel where I was attacked by Zargos Flintblade. He saved against my first blindness spell, but not my second. My sling then finished him off. Upon finding a wand, I had it identified at the temple.

I lured Greywolf towards the mines where the guards helped me, but unfortunately they actually killed him, so I lost out on experience.

Since I couldn't get into Joseph's house and thus get permission to enter the mines, at least the way is open now as Greywolf killed one of the guards who for some reason was carrying porn..

We reunited Rufie and Albert and killed Vax and Zal (very difficult) then killed a winter wolf in transit.

Reached level 4 and now resting at the Carnival.

Images later. Going back to bed first.

PS

I found a ring of fire resistance and took Samuel to the FAI. Then went shopping for level 2 scrolls and memorised them.

That enabled me to resist fear when taking on Tarnesh who hurt me, but not badly.

Returned the Colquetle Amulet. This has got people believing that I am a hero! Fools that they are!

What has surprised me is that my robe and staff haven't yet disintegrated. I was expecting to have had to buy replacements by now!

I do have another robe, but it is nowhere near as good.

Also that I haven't missed magic missile that much. Of course, I do have the wand which still has some charges left.

I ran out of offensive spells against Zordral, but still prevailed.

I bought an acid protection scroll but couldn't afford any more.

The scroll was NOT sufficient protection.

A new run with a Dwarven Inquisitor and a Drow War Scout, (Fighter thief) I'm glad to be playing a good character again. I'm far more comfortable with that.
I rolled a Lawful Good Dwarven Fighter and used EE Keeper to make him and Inquisitor.

For the Drow I used keeper to adjust a fighter/thief that I rolled: and adjusted it for effects, resistances and the like copying them from the Drow war scout that was in my game from a mod I think. The war scout was level 6, so would have been overpowered if I had simply imported it.

Baldr007.jpg

Sadly, I have discovered that a lot of the equipment is inaccurately described. The Drow buckler is supposed to be +3. It isn't! It has no effect whatsoever!

The El'Telarian katana is described as two-handed. It isn't. It is single handed.

The Baldur's Shield is supposed to add 1 to strength. It doesn't.

I suspect that a mod has nerfed a lot of items, and hasn't bothered to change such information. I could of course be wrong
.

Journal of Baldur of Karatur

I'm not sure how much of this is true, but I have been informed that my mother was a proficient fighter in Karatur, whose husband neglected her sexually, preferring the company of men. Thus when Baldur visited, she wholeheartedly welcomed him into her chambers. However towards the end of a night of passion her husband returned and Baldur escaped through a window, leaving his panoply behind. It is said that I am the issue of that night of passion and that is the reason for my name. It explains the reason for the equipment that was found on my mother's body, that equipment being passed on to me by Gorion. Because that equipment included an excellent katana, two of my proficiency points were put in being skilful with that weapon. The other points being put in two handed weapon style due to it being a two-handed katana.

My companion Vael the Shadow, (which means shadow the shadow), and his equipment comes from the under-dark. His kill is in long swords. I do hope that his Drow equipment will not disintegrate before I find replacements.

North of Bereegost I was able to kill a powerful ogre who hurt me badly. However, we prevailed and I now have a very useful belt.

We recovered by resting in an inn.

Baldr009.jpg

We have arrived at the carnival having picked up the Colquetle Amulet and been given a ring that raises charisma to 18.

In Nashkel we found ankheg armour which Vael the Shadow is now wearing as it is more effective than his drow armour, even if it's not as good for stealth.

Greywolf was killed by the guards at the mine.
