As for me it's always the same chest right outside of Copper (close to the area enter/exit, no need to go inside, so less loading screens) for BG2 just to store gear I don't want to sell (yea, I'm a hoarder just like that... =)
Makes sense. The table I mentioned is efficient assuming you want to use a container inside the Copper. If you're comfortable keeping your things outside, your chest is better.

It would have never occurred to me to do that, and I'm not sure why. I'm willing to use the barrel outside the Elfsong in BG1, but in BG2 I always keep my things inside a tavern, usually the Flagons.

Well, as a seasoned traveler I'm quite confident in unfamiliar environments and used to sleep/store my things under open sky (the Strider part in my nickname is there for reasons =) So that chest outside Copper is as good for me as any other one.
Very cool! It seems like you, Borco and I are similar in that respect. We combine our RPG adventures with RL adventures.

Alagar, halfling bounty hunter: Part 15

The current shoulder season in the Umar Hills offered the promise of little crowds and favorable accommodation rates. We wanted to get there as soon as possible, but first we had to go through Alagar's checklists and fill the identified gaps in his inventory.

These were mainly concerning his potion collection, so we paid a visit to Roger to purchase 1x Potion of Clarity, 1x Potion of Defense, 1x Potion of Magic Shielding, and 1x Potion of Mind Focusing. Seeing that he didn’t have any Stone Forms in stock, our next stop was Mrs Cragmoon at the Bridge District.

Have you noticed how she changes her looks in every run? Is there some kind of Adratha thing going on here as well? One thing is sure - as long as she continues selling Potions of Stone Form and Oils of Speed, we won't be asking any questions.

By accepting the Fallen Paladins' quest earlier on in the Temple District, Alagar has also fixed his PoI supply for the foreseeable future.

1736882133532.jpeg
With our preparations almost complete, we swung by the A-Mart to spend our remaining gold on the Girdle of Hill Giant Strength and left the town through the City Gates. I was nearly certain that our vacation plan would come to a halt mid-journey by running into Renfeld, but somehow Alagar made it all to the Umar Village the way without any interruptions.
1736882153536.jpeg
Our priority numero uno was Ilbratha. When bombarding the mimic at a distance with special traps was getting us nowhere, Alagar activated DuHM + RoAC II, and resolved the situation with Arbane at melee range.

Despite getting confused, our summoned berserker warrior managed to finish one of the two umber hulks after he had lured them them towards our three traps. Lacking effective immunity to the umber hulks' confusion (his current save vs. spell of 0 is not low enough to fully offset the schoolless -2 penalty), Alagar observed the combat from in the shadows. Killing even one umber hulk was already a success, so we decided not to push it any further and returned to the village to enjoy a bit of rest in the inn.

1736882206811.jpeg
The next morning, we reported to Jermien. Always the proponent of contingency planning, Alagar managed to persuade the mage to hold back on completing the golem until we prepared few of our traps. Just in case, for example if it turned out that programming stone golems to protect your daughter's celibacy is currently not supported by their hardware.
1736882227936.jpeg
And so it did. Alagar's traps triggered, however something must have happened because even though the log cleared shows the damage, the golem remained completely unharmed.
1736882236628.jpeg
To add to our woes, Jermien's Stoneskins didn't kick in.
1736882257620.jpeg
What now? We were already running DuHM, so our best bet was to activate Arbane's haste and attack. Note that Alagar's carrying quarterstaff +1 instead of his usual Staff Spear - that's rusty me incorrectly assuming that stone golems are partially resistant to piercing damage.
1736882305522.jpeg
Seeing Jermien conjure his Stoneskins in the meantime provided us with at least some relief. Still, we had to be fast. Do you know what happens when the game can sense that you're under pressure? This.
1736882347731.jpeg
And this (note that the short duration Haste is still on).
1736882355804.jpeg
It was a close call, but we eventually managed to bring the thing down just in time as Jermien's skins got depleted and all it would take to kill him was one or two hits max.

1736882371304.jpeg
Following this unnecessary adventure, we made our way to the Shadow Temple. Alagar's mission here was to investigate rather than fight. With that in mind, our main goal was to assess the situation and locate Mazzy - the conquest would have to wait for another day. In order to accomplish that, Alagar had to face an absurd number of respawning shades among others.
1736882429910.jpeg
With Arbane in hand whenever there was a shadow fiend on the field, we navigated both the temple exterior and interior by luring the majority of enemies towards the crystal shard. Some, like for example the skeleton warriors, had to be taken down with a crushing weapon.
1736882446113.jpeg
Others, like the shadow jailor, were impaled with the Staff Spear (that's a nice hit by the way).
1736882456698.jpeg
After securing Mazzy's freedom, we decided to discontinue to further examination of the temple and dashed for the exit.
1736882610508.jpeg
1736882615994.jpeg
While on one hand we had been genuinely concerned about her fate, the principal reasons for undergoing this rescue mission were admittedly the Sword of Arvoreen and the Boots of Stealth. To secure the latter, we had to insist on traveling to the Five Flagons together before she could return to Trademeet. To make her time in the city more interesting, she was at least allowed partake in some action against some of the local muggers.
1736882750429.jpeg
1736882767398.jpeg
Samuel was genuinely pleased to see our merry halflings arriving at the doorstep of his inn. And so was Alagar with the generous gifts.
1736882965873.jpeg
1736882968405.jpeg
1736882970584.jpeg
See you in Trademeet Mazzy - we'll be our way there soon enough as well.

Alagar, halfling bounty hunter: Final Update

My playing got out of sync with my posting and it's my sad duty to report that Alagar didn't make it out of Spellhold. While his death falls into a very niche category, it's 100% legitimate and there's no other way but to accept the failure.

Kudos to anyone who can guess what's happened. It's really a difficult one, but all the hints are right here on this screenshot (which was taken more of less one round before the game was over).

Additional hint:
Note that I'm using some of the remove animation components via BG Tweaks.

Sorry for your loss, Borco. We all had high hopes for Alagar. All it takes is one mistake, though, and it's easy to make one in the chaos of the Spellhold fight.

As for the cause of death, the obvious answer would be that it was your clone, although there's still the question of how. There are a couple things that look sketch here. One being the equipped ranged weapon, the other being the Wand of Paralyzation in the quick slot, and therefore presumably in the clone's hands too. Not sure.

In any case, I hope we'll see another run from you soon. Alagar looked great up until his unexpected demise.

I'm still not feeling great, so I could definitely see myself restarting Alastria semi-soon. Maybe we can run in tandem again.

You're very close!

After we touched upon the interaction between Physical Mirror and trap projectiles in the Lounge, I was trying to think of any other spells or abilities that would be capable of producing a similar effect. The only thing I could come up with was the Reflex, but I quickly dismissed that as a non-issue on account of it only being available to the party. Putting aside the theoretical case of a charmed party member, there's however one enemy that can carry the Reflex - the Spellhold clone.

Alagar's clone spawned with Everard + Reflex almost right on top of our pre-set Maze trap (visible on the screenshot above). The irony here is that the snare was supposed to fulfill precisely that purpose, but the Reflex point has completely alluded me.

With his aura clouded, Alagar's ProMagic scroll globe came too late...

Hence the mention of the animation removal mod...

Speaking of animations, the EE's new Maze animation changed the counter window on Maze. It used to be longer. You had until the cage converged on your character. With the old animation you probably would have survived.

Rough way to go, my friend!

Correct! I'm thinking about putting the Reflex effect back on to make it easier to assess what's going in the heat of the battle, keeping only the removal of blur effect from the Claw and Cloak of Displacement.

That's an interesting point. However, there certainly is a window with the EE Maze as well, even though it might be shorter - Alagar himself had to test that when I accidentally tripped the Maze trap while obtaining the Wand of Paralyzation from the Guarded Compound and had to burn the first green ProMagic. As long as you have a clear aura, you should make it.

Yes. You definitely can counter maze with the EE animation. I, too, have done it.

I'd need to compare side by side to quantify the difference, to the extent that there is one. The old one would converge from far away. You could move to lengthen the travel distance and then you had until the cage converged to execute your counter. If you were wearing boots of speed you could earn yourself some round segments, which could be enough to reset the aura clock.

The EE animation gets on you much quicker. It's also a bit less clear when the point of no return it, at least at my current level of familiarity.
