Journal of CúChoinneach

Xzar and Montaron joined me whereupon Montaron pickpocketed a cloak in Beregost and numerous items at Ulgoth's Beard. We left him there. We have been asked to deal with Bassilus, so that is next on the agenda after we have identified a few wands.
EDIT
Summoned skeletons and a silence spell put paid to Bassilus.
We then went to set Dynaheir free. She joined us and we have just rested at the Carnival where I bid Xzar farewell Dynaheir memorised as many spells as she could.

I am currently falling asleep. Highly dangerous in a no reload run. So, as Zebedee said: "Time for bed!"

We went to find the witch who knew the secret of Tenya's bowl. It seems that she was responsible for the death of Tenya's mother. We killed her. Unfortunately she killed Dynaheir. It cost 800gp to raise her! :(

Baldr254.jpg

We killed several ankheg to boost our gold and Dynaheir's experience. With the gold we bought her a decent robe and staff and a wand of sleeping. I thought it a bit pricey until I discovered that it had 100 charges. I certainly won't have to buy another! We also bought all the scrolls that Dynaheir could memorise. Afterwards she memorised them.

We are poor again. There were other items that we wished to buy and couldn't.

Managed to prove the innocence of Brage. :)

Thought that it might be time for the mines.

Mulahey was defeated and Xan joined the party.

We left Imoen at the Carnival.

I have come across some images of a few Drow Tiefling and thought that running a party of them could be interesting.

By doing a test run, I discovered that they cannot boost reputation at temples. That makes the game a bit different!

I had to use Shadowkeeper to adjust resistances and to reduce the amount of experience. I used the mod Sirene which incorporates a Tiefling called Sirene as the model for adjusting my characters. For Drow magic resistance I researched all the Drow in my game of which there are dozens. The lowest was Viconia with a resistance of 50 whilst the highest was Drizzt with 98. The majority were in the mid-seventies so I chose 76 for my characters which was the average value.

The Tiefling Remnant

When Gorion came across our village, we were the only ones left alive. It seems that the village consisted of a variety of Tiefling of different races who had banded together for mutual protection. He found an abundance of armour and weaponry there and put the weapons of our parents to one side to give to us when the time was right. Selling the other weaponry made him quite wealthy which in turn enabled him to foster us without financial hardship.

The three of us are all Drow Tiefling, I being a Priest of Helm, my twin sister being a conjurer/thief, and Masamune being a Cavalier, he being named after an inscription on his sword, a two-handed katana. We are all united in our worship of Helm.

I got quite good rolls as can be seen. I don't think that I have ever had a better roll for a cleric.

After the death of Gorion we met up with Imoen. we escorted her to the safety of Beregost and left her there. Magia got hurt badly by gibberlings, but she recovered.

Journal of the Tiefling Remnant.

We traveled up and down the sword coast gaining experience and gold as we went, not to mention reputation. That dropped for a while whilst we had Dorn in our party, however we bade him farewell after the death of Kryll and our reputation went back up to 18. I find it amazing that such as we are considered heroes. Of course having the likes of Masamune in our party could have something to do with it.

I am currently a Level 5 Priest of Helm.

As we investigated the south of the Sword Coast we reached a reputation of 20.

We traveled west and helped Brage, and the archaeologist.

We also took advantage of the fact that our cavalier is immune to poison when we took on several sirine further north.

Upon being asked to help against Mutamin, we did so and in the process killed numerous basilisk and sirines.

Afterwards we met Baeloth, a level 6 sorcerer. He too has suffered due to his drow heritage so we allowed him into our party despite his alignment.

We also met Viconia but her level was only 2. Perhaps I should have linked up with her earlier. We allowed her to join our party as well because she was a drow.
(I assigned her another portrait as the one that she had was not clearly drow).

At level 6, Tenya was the last to join us. It was her youth that caused us to allow her to join, Helm being rather forgiving of children.

Journal of the Tiefling Remnant.

We killed Droth and Shoal as well as the rest of the Sirene. With myself, Tenya and Viconia in the party we are a bit cleric-heavy but that's OK. We'll drop Tenya off for a while after doing her quest.

Grandparent duty coming up, so everything on hold for a week. :)

Journal of the Tiefling Remnant.

Tenya learned how to use her bowl when the killed Lethe, the mage responsible for her mother's death. Baeloth and Magia were badly injured and had to use a healing potion to survive.

The party has now returned to the Carnival and rested.

We then decided to help at the Nashkel mines. Tenya was most supportive as well as being helpful in battle, indeed it was her lesser water elemental that killed Mulahey whilst we killed the kobolds and skeletons.

We returned his sword and other equipment to him before bidding him farewell.

I just wanted to stop by to say hello to everyone! Even though I haven't been posting lately, I've been doing some off-thread work with a totemic druid in a party set-up to celebrate my best friend's comeback into the game after several years by doing a parallel run. For the record, I still remember our very first 'hot seat' playthrough of Irenicus' dungeon at his place in 2001, lol.

I don't think I'll manage to properly cover this one anytime soon, but I'll make sure to drop you a note in case there's anything interesting going on. While I'm slowly starting to put together the basics of a no-reload party play, it still feels kind of sloppy and untight, so it's not that you're missing out on something. When I do post again, it's likely going to be with a solo character as usual.

Regards,

B.

Journal of the Tiefling Remnant.

We had a few minor problems in the Cloakwood mines.

After that we proceeded to Baldur's Gate and did some minor quests. I then said "au revoir" to my evil members so I could complete Reputation boosting quests.

Have since done a lot of easy quests at the Gate before chatting to Jet 'Laya an Elven cleric who needs help.

We helped her by killing her banshee sister and the quests that followed on from that.

We dropped off her and other NPCs that we picked up doing those quests. We picked up extra strength dexterity and wisdom tomes which we used wisely on permanent members of the party. We went to the Iron Throne and were then sent to Candlekeep where we have just been sent to the secret library.

Starting with a Wizard Slayer Masamune.
Gorion found him with the body of his mother whose only possession of note was a katana etched with the word, "Masamune."
That is how he got his name, and the reason why he was trained in the use of katanas. Gorion would have liked to have raised him as a paladin, but his hatred of magic made him far more suited to be a Wizard Slayer. He has reached the FAI totally unscathed.

I changed my mind concerning the race of my Wizard Dlayer and chose a lawful Neutral Dwarf instead because of the dwarven resistances. He has reached Charisma of 17, Level 6 and Reputation 20. **** in axes and ** in double wielding. So far he has investigated from Nashkel to ht Gnoll Fortress, and Nashkel to Tenya's home.

The portrait comes from merging a dwarf from the web and a photo that I took on the trek to Annapurna Base Camp.

Slayer001.jpg

After killing the wolves near Lathander's Temple, I intend taking on the basilisks and medusae.

The only battle that has been worrying was when I went for the charisma increasing tome. The shaman in there panicked me, and I very nearly died. Just in time the spell wore off and I was then able to recover. I am wondering if I will have problems with the basilisks. I can't use potions to protect me from petrification.

Time will tell. So far, I know of only one green scroll to protect me from them. I cannot use potions of invisibility.

I killed the basilisks, medusae, and Mutamin. Now at level 7 and saving throw against petrification is now 11. Not too many basilisks that I HAVE to fight left. I'll see how things go. Perhaps I shouldn't have taken on Mutamin and his pets!

Of course I don't HAVE to continue as solo, but that is what I would like to do.

EDIT

Slayer got killed by Dwarves in Durlag's Tower.

I should have left it until I had weapons to increase strength as there were so many chests that could not be opened.

Nevertheless, a worthwhile run as I am unfamiliar with Wizard Slayers.

Started again. Cleared from Tenya through to Nashkel, and then to the Gnoll Stronghold where I was able to bump charisma to 17. Reputation now 19. Level 6.
Upon entering Nashkel Mine I came across a number of Duerger. They were very powerful, so I had to ensure that I only fought one at a time! Even doing that, I had to retreat to a safe place after fighting each one in order to recover. They are deadly! Unfortunately I am unable to equip their better armour though there is an axe that raises strength by one that could be useful in future.

Wondering why a Dwarven Wizard Slayer cannot wear this armour. It is even MADE by dwarves!

PS I've found the answer.

I died because of:
A few bits of bad luck.
1) I failed the save.
2) I ran TOWARDS the shamans
3) I got poisoned.
The rest is history.

Starting with me, a Wizard Slayer named Jarl Duragon, and my twin brother, Jarl Mjolnir.
Gorion found us with the body of our mother whose only possessions were: a helm marked Red Falcon, and an axe of note. Nearby was a warhammer named Mjolmir

That is how we got our names, and also the reason why I was trained in the use of axes. Gorion would have liked to have raised both of us as paladins, but my hatred of magic and being neutral good made me far more suited to be a Wizard Slayer. My twin brother's habit of becoming enraged made him more suited to becoming a berserker.

When I was named, a seer proclaimed that I would have the power of Duragon and that is how I got my name. Gorion would have liked to have raised me as a paladin, but my hatred of evil magic and being neutral good made me far more suited to be a Wizard Slayer.

For those who are unaware Duragon had been a Dwarven king

Journal of Jarl Duragon

I have completed nearly all the quests that I could, prior to entering the Nashkel Mines, other than going to Durlag's Tower.

I think you should, in your best Icelandic, ask the locals: “Could you please direct me to Sorcerous Sundries?”

I know it's a shame, but despite having had lived in the country for several months some years ago, I would now only be able to say "you" and "me" in that sentence. Funnily enough, there's no word for "please", otherwise I'd hopefully be able to squeeze that out as well 😃.
