Journal of Firebeard Bloodaxe

I joined up with Tenya and together we cleared the ankhegs, medusae and basilisks with few problems.

We are now entering the mines,

(The spells of the assassins [from a mod] there recently brought a run to an end. I'm hoping that buffs will make them a little easier.)

But the first thing he saw was a huge tent and he got instant PTSD from Naskel Carnival and Zordral.
I totally get it with the tents - I once went to see a circus in a chapiteau and it was beyond awful. Anyway, the sith triumvirate of Tarnesh, Zordral, and Tranzig is certainly high on the list of BG1 showstoppers, as several of my characters would tell had they still been alive.

I’m abroad now, without my computer, so I don’t expect to be active anytime soon, but I’ll be back home in about a month. Hopefully the stars will align and you, me and Borco can run simultaneously. That sounds fun.
Have a good one and we'll look forward to welcoming you back in action! I'm at the starting blocks.

B.

@Borco You really do need some protection from fear when taking on Zordral! In my current run it was rage, but there are a few options. One of course is to run away through the tent flap just as he begins to cast it. On occasion I have panicked but outside, and he hasn't followed me. When that happened I just waited it out and re-entered.

Journal of Firebeard Bloodaxe.

I joined up with Minsc and Dynaheir, went ankheg hunting and with the proceeds bought better equipment and some scrolls for Dynaheir. We are now very por. If anybody dies we have no gold for resurrection.
Then Tenya wanted us to go in search of a witch in the Firewine ruins.
The battle was fierce, but in the end worthwhile.

Blood393.jpg

We are now in the mine and we were pleased to rescue miner Beldin from the kobolds due to Dynaheir casting skull trap judiciously.

We also fought against the assassins most effectively, (Unlike previous game) skeletons were particularly effective.
One of the assassins was Gorken Bloodaxe, a relative perhaps? 😄

Blood395.jpg

Skeletons helped us to slay Mulahey without difficulty.

Xan joined us and we then completed his quest. We left him at the FAI.

In my Baldur's Gate game there is a character named Bruenor Battlehammer who owns a helm, armour, and a shield all named after him.

He also has an axe named after him, but NOT a hammer. That is weird! Does anybody know why?

After all he did make Aegis-fang, so there seems no reason for him not to.

EDIT

I've discovered that Battlehammer is the name of the clan, rather than a personal name, which perhaps explains it. One day I might create a character Bruenor Battleaxe with alll proficiencies going to axes. :)

Ultimately, Silver Blade GWWs won the day for us in Hell, since they turned out to be susceptible to its vorpal strike. I've also made a note to remember swapping the Claw for Ring of Fire Resistance or RoP+2 when facing balors in SoA in the future.

Yuppers!

Vorpal weapons are helpful against SCS demons, and RoP + 2 and Ring of Fire Resistance is mega better than the Claw against balors.

If you end up collecting Ravager it’s super-useful at the throne.

(Sorry Arkona wasn’t more helpful in regards to your demon woes. As I’m sure you noticed she ran with A-Tweaks demons.)

Cheers,

A.

Btw, congrats on clearing SoA!

Journal of Firebeard

We picked up Coran and made our way through Cloakwood.

The battle against the dragon went much easier and the only real problem was against Drasus when I lost control of much of the party due to Confusion.

We all did survive somehow. I had to use an extra healing potion as I seemed to be the party member that everyone (enemies and confused party members) was targeting.

Later on it seemed to me Tenya who was being injured.

We survived against Drasus and a new tactic against Hareishan made short work of her - buffed skeletons!! She ended my last game. Revenge is sweet!

They have worked so well that I think that my next run will be a cleric or fighter/cleric. They are SO effective against mages.

No screenshot as I was out of sight.

I thought that I would try Coran's backstab against Natasha. It didn't work.

Natasha cast a lightning bolt that killed herself, her cronies, and Coran.

It seems an opportune time to leave so that I can cash in on loot and raise Coran.

I'll be back!

(Sorry Arkona wasn’t more helpful in regards to your demon woes. As I’m sure you noticed she ran with A-Tweaks demons.)

For sure, that and plus the fact that you were playing the classic version (thus Arkona's heavy use of Seeking + magic bullets, as opposed to my barbarian's fast track with a strength-stacking Everard) were probably the main differences, although it was still a great source of inspiration and cool strategy tips. Eventually, we didn't make it past WK level 3 where we got boxed by the glabrezu-spawning Tahazaar and his entourage.

As for my demon problem, it's indeed been the common denominator of all my recent runs, namely the SCS balors. After the death of my barbarian, I ran a Priest of Helm and occasionally allowed her to use her own balors via Gate. Benefiting from all the abilities and AI enhancements introduced by the SCS improved demons, they are arguably overpowered for SoA (less so in the case of the pit fiends, although they're still quite a brutal force when put against enemy NPCs). Nevertheless, by experimenting with the balors I finally discovered the reason why there were such a pain - for some reason, their scripting forced them to constantly keep reapplying their at-will Stoneskins (maybe twice per round), instead of just once in 3 rounds. Like this:

(Note that there is a slightly larger-sized video file in the spoiler tag, in case anyone's running on cell data in the middle of the Amazon or so. Also, you can ignore that PPBHAAL which got CLUAconsoled into Suldanesselar for demonstration purposes, since he's the go-to creature spawn in my console because of the bugged dream sequence in Candlekeep in SoA Chapter 4.)

The net result was that even with GWWs or Energy Blades it became nearly impossible to make a meaningful progress through their defences. When reinstalling the SCS component didn't fix the issue, I decided to go for a fresh install of both BGEE + BG2EE and also to migrate from SCS v34.3 to v35.21. I'm yet to face a balor in this new set-up, but I'm hoping this will now be working correctly.

Regards,

B.

Fusrodah, Elven Dragon Disciple: part 3

Difficulty challenges
:
  • Insane SCS 34 (Installed all SCS components except for improved vampires and shade lord)
  • Max hp on level up, no double damage.
  • Allowed:
    • Robe of Vecna
  • Not allowed:
    • Cloak of Mirroring
    • Scroll of protection from undead
    • Project image/simulacrum/wish. Only exception is final fight in ToB if I ever get there
    • Not using Planetar in SoA. Only exception is when enemies use them first

By now, Fusrodah seemed as confident as he can be. He cleared out the vampire nest and was ready to go and rescue Imoen. But he also had his hobbies. Entering random houses in the city being his fauvorite hobby, he found a creature in a Docks district called Kangaxx. He decided to help him, telling himself: ‘What’s the worst that can happen?’ Well some bad things happened alright. After a long fight, Fusrodah had to flee as he didn’t have a solution to Fallen Planetar with Improved Invisibility (he used all his scrolls to detect invisibility before and he didn’t have true sight yet). His own planetar got imprisoned and he couldn’t cast a new one to use True Sight. After having a bad sleep in the inn (feeling Kangaxx is in a house right next to him and listening to drunken sailors all night does not help with sleep when you are preparing for one of the strongest creatures in the world), he went back to clean up the mess he started.

Unsure whether Kangaxx had slept at all (though he did cast Wish and ‘rested’ right before Fusrodah had to flee), Fusrodah took it really carefully. Basically throwing meat (from scrolls to save his spells) on Kangaxx while keeping his Spell Shield up, so his Spell Immunities and other buffs didn’t disappear. After a while, Kangaxx fell and Fusrodah was really glad. But unfortunately for him, Kangaxx did not completely die and only unlocked his true potential. Well that’s where the real fight started.

Fusrodah continued with his tactic from before and burning out all summoning scrolls he had, while maintaining his defenses and holding distance (and sometimes trying to throw a stone at Kangaxx):

Screenshot 2025-06-19 115017-min.png

At the same time trying to remove the summons from Kangaxx:

Screenshot 2025-06-19 114908-min.png

This warg got a bit more than he bargained for:

Screenshot 2025-06-19 115213-min.png

Casting SI: abjuration just in time to not get effected by Remove Magic:

Screenshot 2025-06-19 115328-min.png

Fusrodah maintained his distance through the whole fight, being a bit worried about imprisonment and demilich howl as he read about these abilities back in Candlekeep. Thing started to look good and Kangaxx seemed tired and instead of spells, he started hitting the skeletons which were summoned.:

Screenshot 2025-06-19 115434-min.png

Fusrodah told himself that it’s time to hit hard, so instead of defense, he went full offense for the first time in the demilich battle. After killing his own skeletons to leave room for next summons, he cast Improved Alarcity and he summoned 5 mordaiken swords and hasted them. This is where Fusrodah made his biggest mistake of his life (after entering the tent in Naskel Carnival that is) and underestimated Kangaxx. Thinking the demilich did not have any more spells, for the first time, he allowed Kangaxx to come a bit closer (and at the same time Fusrodah did not want to waste Improved Alarcity). Kangaxx had an ace up his sleeve, he went with Horror, and what’s worse: demilich howl. This is where Tymora herself stood with Fusrodah and he made two important saves, especially the howl and ending the game. It was at this moment Fusrodah decided that he will not make a mistake like this again and he will become the most powerful Bhallspawn to have walked the Fearun:

Screenshot 2025-06-19 115703-min.png

I believe the howl had around 50% chance of landing (kangaxx being a necro, Fusrodah not having Improved Invisibility no longer while still having the claw). This was the closest he had to dying so far except for that Zordral fight at the start of the run.

With the renewed motivation, and 5 hasted swords and energy blades, Kangaxx went down in few seconds:

Screenshot 2025-06-19 115547-min.png

After this, Fusrodah felt indestructible and kept opening random doors for fun in the city. He stumbled upon another lich along with a high level party in the Bridge, but they went down really easily.

Tbh I was thinking whether I should go to clear out Twisted Rune, reason being I already had a weaker staff from Planar Sphere stronghold which gave +2 saving throws. (got a bit lucky when they were crafting it) But it proved to be a great decision to clear it out. It wasn’t that hard anymore with Ring of Gaxx and the Staff of Magi was invaluable. Having only 5 L9 spells as dragon disciple hurts, and having the 6th (spell trap) proved invaluable in the future.

Ryland (human blade) & Kalam (halfling assassin), multiplayer run: Introduction

Technical Notes:
Game version: BGEE 2.6.6.0
Mods: SCS v35.25, BG Tweaks (cosmetic changes)
SCS install: all tactical components and AI enhancements, limited spell revisions (only core spell-system changes, rebalancing of powerful spells, spells increased in power), no IWD spells, no spell school changes, no new arcane and divine spells, no revised elementals, no changes in shapeshifting spells
Difficulty: Insane

My fresh game set-up seemed like a good opportunity for starting a new run. This time the stars aligned and I'm happy to report that we managed to kick off a multiplayer session together with @Finarfin. Always the fast learner, he's made incredible progress as a no-reloader in a record amount of time, eventually overtaking my best ever attempt on Hardcore on his third (or perhaps fourth?) run on Insane with a roughly identical SCS install. I'm going to be in pretty good company.

I expect that the pace of this run might be somewhat slower due to the inherent scheduling constraints of any collective activity, however we do plan to keep it reasonably steady. We might alternate on the write-up duties and possibly also post our active single player runs, if any, in parallel.

As for our party's composition, I'll be playing the human protagonist - Ryland, a neutral good blade with a slightly introverted disposition, whereas Finarfin will be piloting Ryland's stoic halfling companion Kalam, a lawful neutral assassin.

1750681747951.jpeg

1750681834356.jpeg

Note: I forgot to make a snapshot of Kalam's starting character sheet, so the above is a slightly more recent CV. Somebody give this man some WIS tomes, lol.

Starting proficiencies - Ryland: *scimitars, *crossbows
Starting proficiencies - Kalam: *short swords, *short bows. Upon consideration, Kalam's precious starting thieving points were allocated to Set Traps.

Ryland and Kalam have been inseparable childhood friends, just like our RL selves (with a notable distinction that I'm not a Bhaalspawn and Finarfin does not make a living as a contract killer). Consequently, departing Candlekeep in tandem with Kalam was Ryland's non-negotiable condition when discussing the arrangements with Gorion. Despite his initial objections, his foster father eventually yielded, having accepted that keeping a trusted companion and a competent bodyguard (albeit with somewhat lacking sense of judgment) at his side could be Ryland's lifeline should anything unexpected happen to him.

But first things first - here we are at the beginning of the adventure, counting our coins before hitting Winthrop's tab.

1750682329163.jpeg

Our purchase order comprised studded leather, heavy crossbow, short bow, stacks of bolts and arrows, short sword, wakizashi, ninja-to, and a pair of bucklers. Realizing that we might fall short on credit, Kalam quietly raided the rooms in the inn while Ryland stood guard. Even though the star sapphire remained off-limits, we managed to score a jackpot in the form of a Potion of Clarity.
1750682353375.jpeg
Content with our shiny new gear, we sang our favorite tune (for the record, we haven't yet decided on a title song for this run, but there are a couple of options on the shortlist - we'll keep you posted) on the way to the barracks. We picked up Dreppin's antidote potion and continued into the inner library where we collected the Identify scroll from Thetoril - sorry Neesa, sorry Firebeard, we're going to need those.
1750682370897.jpeg
The Sword Coast awaits.

Regards,

B. & F.

Returning to the mines, Davaeorn was no match for summoned skeletons.

Blood408.jpg

At the FAI Jet 'Laya joined us whereupon we went in search of her sister whom we killed upon discovering that she had become a banshee.

Blood412.jpg

We have now been tasked with killing a dragon near Nashkel. That was not as challenging as I expected!

Blood413.jpg

Bardo left the party and Jet 'Laya rejoined.
Conchobhair Strongblade left the party and CúChoinneach joined.

We headed for Castle Daerthmac. The upper levels were straightforward, and we have now killed Lord Daerthmac.

We summoned some skeletons whereupon Coran led them to him whilst being in stealth. The skeletons killed him. :)

Blood415.jpg

At this stage we COULD have left the castle. However, there is loot to be had. ;)

I have already been able to boost my wisdom. :)

At my current level the vampiresses are a problem as no party members are immune to their attacks. However, last time that I slept, I adjusted my spell picks accordingly.

However, I didn't meet any more.

Ryland (human blade) & Kalam (halfling assassin by @Finarfin), multiplayer run: Part 1 - From FAI to Beregost

With the tragic entrée to the Baldur's Gate saga behind us, we were finally ready for some action. First, we borrowed some adventure gear from Imoen - sorry girl, you're a friend and everything, but while your talents might be obsolete in our group, your wand and potions are not. Stay safe!
1750777888860.jpeg
Monty and Xzar on the other hand actively tried bribing us with some of their possessions in an attempt to lure us to their cause. Our compliance department played it smart - we were allowed to accept the payment in-kind, but had to refuse to offer any service in return. Thanks, lads, that second studded leather and Oil of Speed will come in handy!

What next? Easter egg diamond - check. Elminster - check. First gibberling kill - check. Ring of Protection - check. Girdle of Piercing - che.. oh, wait!
1750778022205.jpeg
Kalam's opening backstab on the belt ogre failed and we were on the run soon, trying not to get crushed into goo. We didn't want to risk setting a trap, since a critical failure could be fatal, and therefore had to rely solely on our ranged weapons for damage. And I can tell you, kiting in a multiplayer set-up is a serious sport - you don't get to pause each time to take your shot and retreat, as that would quickly deteriorate into an endless stream of "Can I unpause now?", "Ready" and "Sorry, my bad!" kind of exchanges. Instead, you're forced to hip-shoot moving targets while trying not to run towards them too often. There's a primitive fun aspect to it though.

As a matter of fact, to facilitate smoother gameplay we're not even using any auto-pause options in this playthrough. I know there are players out there who sometimes impose certain pause restriction on themselves to introduce this action aspect into the single player context - I respect that, and it can certainly be a great practice for multiplayer sessions, however I guess I'll stick to the round-based format whenever possible.

Anyway, back to the combat. Ryland activated his offensive spin and managed to land two decent hits. I rarely go for crossbows, but man, they do hit hard for a ranged weapon with no STR stacking bonus.
1750778188655.jpeg
Meanwhile, things got a tad spicy when a randomly spawned wolf joined the fray. No, not this one!
1750778235693.jpeg
But just as Mr Wolf talks fast and drives fast, BG wolves move fast and strike fast. And while Winston solves problems, BG wolves can cause them, especially if you're a level 1 character.
1750778294421.jpeg
With his buckler in hand, Ryland acted as bait, and Kalam used the window of opportunity to take down the ogre with his poisoned arrow.
1750778310205.jpeg
Ryland then rushed to the ogre's corpse, picked up the Girdle of Piercing for extra AC vs. piercing, and lured the wolf further away from his sharp-eyed companion. Kalam's poison took its second victim of the day.
1750778358797.jpeg
Further north at FAI, we collected the Ring of Wizardry and delivered Joia's ring to boost our PR. Taking down the slow hobgoblins was a picnic compared to the perils of the previous fight. We did float the idea of highjacking Tarnesh, however it was unanimously dismissed as too risky. Instead, Kalam attempted to enter the inn on his own under stealth, but he was denied entry because apparently he had failed to gather his party before venturing forth.
1750778440632.jpeg
With not much else to do here, we moved to Beregost. At Feldepost's Kalam did the talking vis-à-vis Marl, while Ryland had to apologize to Firebeard for making away with that Identify scroll back at Candlekeep. We earned our first level-up by taking down the ogrillions south of town.
1750778484522.jpeg
Since we're running two single class rogues, our level curve is going to be fully synchronized. It's almost like going to the same class together, which actually had been the case for 12 years straight, hehe. Ryland got his first spell slot, Kalam invested points into OL, and we were also permitted to take max HP (the future level-ups will be randomised).

Hunting down the hobgoblins in the area gave us access to Boots of Stealth for Kalam. Their two archers, one from the main group and another random spawn, were singled out as priority targets, while studded leather, Girdle of Piercing, and the recently boosted HP pool (16 HP each) kept us reasonably safe from their ranged attacks.
1750778761843.jpeg
Our next task was to monetize the Ring of Wizardry with Thalantyr - we purchased Wand of Sleep, potion case, 2x Potion of Freedom, and a couple of cheap (but impactful) L1 scrolls to be hopefully scribed by Ryland (Blindness, Shield, ProPetrification). High Hedge also became the test grounds for our wands - Ryland's Wand of Magic Missiles against the missile-resistant skeleton and Kalam's newly acquired Wand of Sleep against the gnoll party.
1750778836480.jpeg
Back in Beregost, our duo picked up the gem bag from Neera and delivered Roe's letter and Perdue's sword to their respective recipients. Thanks to a little bit of harmless burglary here and there, we also acquired the Stupefier, Potion of Heroism, as well as a PoI and Wand of Lightning from the manor.
1750778924780.jpeg
We encountered our first close call of the run while battling Landrin's spiders. The plan wasn't bad - Kalam prepared a trap and entered the house, ready to deploy his Wand of Sleep. However, life is certainly tough without Autopause: See enemy - instead of seeing the wand's charge released, we saw this.

1750778976414.jpeg

Even though only one spider followed him outside, the trap damage wasn't enough to take it down. With Kalam poisoned, Ryland quickly passed him our only antidote from his potion case. In turn, Ryland got hold of Kalam's wand, ready to deploy it in case more spiders would show up. Our nimble halfling switched to melee and managed to overtake the spider in the narrow corridor, quaffing the potion as soon as he had some breathing space, while Ryland finished it with his crossbow.
1750778994276.jpeg
1750778997034.jpeg
Following that, our second attempt at clearing the house was much more successful.
1750779012542.jpeg
1750779015486.jpeg
The trouble was eventually worth it, as we both reached our respective L3s. We'll just need to be mindful of the fact that we currently don't have any more antidotes, especially since we're planning to take on Zargal and his two elite hobgoblin bodyguards soon.

Attaching the current stats for the record:

Fusrodah, Elven Dragon Disciple: part 4

Difficulty challenges
:
  • Insane SCS 34 (Installed all SCS components except for improved vampires and shade lord)
  • Max hp on level up, no double damage.
  • Allowed:
    • Robe of Vecna
  • Not allowed:
    • Cloak of Mirroring
    • Scroll of protection from undead
    • Project image/simulacrum/wish. Only exception is final fight in ToB if I ever get there
    • Not using Planetar in SoA. Only exception is when enemies use them first

Having possibly opened every single random door in the entire city (some twice, just to be sure), Fusrodah finally remembered he was supposed to rescue Imoen. So off he went—hopping aboard a boat captained by someone who practically screamed “definitely a trap”—and politely knocked on the door of her alleged prison.

The local asylum warden answered, and Fusrodah immediately got weird vibes. The guy sounded exactly like Irenicus, the same charming lunatic who'd tortured him endlessly. But hey, this one was wearing a hood, so... totally different person, right?

Spoiler: it was not a different person.

Despite having a fancy ring that made him immune to poison and his natural elf-y resistance to sleep, Fusrodah still managed to get poisoned and passed out mid-rescue.

After a refreshing dungeon crawl and losing his soul (happens to the best of us sometimes), he rallied a gang of fellow emotionally unstable inmates, gave Irenicus a good thrashing, and chased him into the Underdark. The shady captain reappeared and offered another boat ride, but Fusrodah wisely declined. Once bitten, twice “no thanks.”

His memories of the Underdark are a bit fuzzy—probably for the best—but he distinctly recalls helping a silver dragon get her eggs back, and otherwise avoiding anything with tentacles or too many eyes. No beholders, no mind flayers, no problem.

Eventually, he followed some suspiciously pointy footprints out of the depths and into the elegant chaos of Suldanessellar, the elven city where the next chapter of madness awaited.

By this point, Fusrodah was feeling pretty godlike. Not in the metaphorical “I’m doing great” way—but in the “bring me an army of golems so I can test my shiny new anti-golem stick” kind of way.
golem1-min.png
They dropped like flies in a thunderstorm. Stone, steel, and pride—shattered. Before long, only two adamantine golems remained. The big boys. The final bosses of statue-kind.
golem2-min.png
These two had some serious resistances and weren’t going down without a fight. So Fusrodah, with all the subtlety of a magical wrecking ball, decided to Imprison them.
golem3-min.png

With the golems out of the picture (and technically out of reality), he strutted around the city like he owned the place—because, at this point, he kind of did.

And then came the grand finale: one last face-off with Irenicus. No hood tricks this time. No poison. No soul-thievery. Just a clean, dramatic beatdown.

Irenicus didn’t stand a chance. And thus, with one final epic smite at the tree of life in Suldanessellar, Fusrodah closed the chapter on torture dungeons, shady captains, and stone giants. At least that's what he thought.

CúChoinneach left and Minsc joined! I didn't keep CúChoinneac because I have found him a bit buggy. :( I think that it's his dog that is the problem.

After returning to Beregost we were asked to search for a missing dwarf in a cave on the Nashkel road.

In there we exchanged Minsc for Ferthgill Trollslayer who was killed when we were attacked by two skeleton lords using lightning bolts.

Fortunately, I had bought a raise dead scroll, so his death was not permanent.

Those skeleton Lords have been a MAJOR problem. They nearly killed me as well!

Ryland (human blade by @Borco) & Kalam (halfling assassin), multiplayer run: Part 2 - Exploring wilderness

Looking to stretch their legs (and their loot bags) along the Sword Coast, our dynamic duo stumbled upon yet another "Mr. Wolf." Kalam, now rocking some stylish new boots that whispered “now you see me, now you’re dead,” slid into the shadows and politely introduced a dagger into the wolf. Ryland jumped in, and the fight ended pretty fast. After this they rescued an actual talking chicken and promised to return it to its master:

With the use of Wand of Sleep and a few traps that would make Kevin McCallister proud, Zargal and his gang hit the ground faster than a tavern brawl on 2x speed:

Later, they encountered a legendary drow warrior—the kind of guy who could probably kill you with his eyebrows. Kalam, naturally, saw his gear and thought, “Backstab?” Ryland, channeling his inner therapist, gently talked him out of this very, very bad life decision:

Returning the talkative chicken to his master should’ve been heartwarming, but alas—the spell did not work. Still, Thalantyr dropped a banger of a quote: “Wish you intelligence, because luck runs out.” Ryland and Kalam nodded like students pretending they understood the lecture:

And finally—like some budget Elder Scrolls montage for a tavern wizard—they entered a random house (A mage’s couchsurfing den?) and Ryland walked out with new powers. Just your classic Sword Coast glow-up:

We have at last entered Baldur's Gate City and done the legal quests there.

We returned to the iron throne next. It was NOT a problem, neither was Candlekeep.

We are now in Durlag's Tower and have defeated the 4 warders. (By leaving the tower until a bit later it is SO much easier. Tenya has true sight which helps against the doppelgangers)

    • Cloak of Mirroring

    • Not using Planetar in SoA. Only exception is when enemies use them first

Having woken up in hell, it was not a pleasant surprise. After doing a couple of trials (he chose all good paths), he knew it was time to face Irenicus one more time. After finding his newfound confidence in the golem battle in Suldanessellar, it was the first time in his life that Fusrodah started on the offense, instead of defense. He imprisoned the first Balor right after the fight started:
1.jpg
Even though he felt good on offense, he never forgot his defenses. Being surrounded by an army of demons did not matter that much as he had to put up a Spell Shield:
2.jpg
Even though Irenicus cast Fallen Planetar (and my self imposed rules were that in this case I could cast Planetar as well), Fusrodah decided he will try to win this battle without his own Planetar to make it a bit harder. So the only choice was to imprison him(her? it?):
3.jpg
Fusrodah decided that the best way to take down a Glabrezu without using too much of his spells was a Magical Sword and Haste (both from scrolls):
4.jpg
Balor is a bit harder, so he decided to imprison this one as well:
5.jpg
Even though Fusrodah only had two 5 level spells left, he had to use SI:Abjuration in this case, otherwise consequences could be dire:
6.jpg
By summoning Cornugon, he managed to split the last Glabrezu from Slayer:
7.jpg
Same tactic as before for the Glabrezu, Sword+Haste from scroll. Took some time, but eventually he went down:
10.jpg
Learning his lesson from the battle with Kangaxx - never forget Improved Invisibility:
11.jpg
As Slayer was alone now, Fusrodah decided it’s time to go on full offense. He summoned swords + haste and went all in:
12.jpg
True sight was last level 6 pick, but it already earned its place few times:
13.jpg
Fusrodah was playing support for the swords, removing protections mostly. But he also joined to give a hit or two sometimes:
14.jpg
And finally Slayer died:
15.jpg

The fight went relatively easy (at least compared to Zordal or Kangaxx) and I don't think there was any super lucky save as it was with them. Only thing I was really worried was that swords will get unsummoned before they manage to kill the Slayer. I did not want to use Planetar, but I had one backup level 9 spell ready for this case (and improved haste scroll on plantar if it was needed). The main tactic was to imprison Balors, split Glabrezus and physically kill them while using as many scrolls as possible to keep options open in case things will go sideways for some reason.

This was my 4th no-reload char, and first that managed to beat BG1. Knowing BG2 much better, I was also more confident about all the things and got a lot of good tips from @Borco about Spell immunities and shields which made it possible to finish BG2 as well. Without those tips and all the support during the run, I would not have been able to beat BG2 on insane no reload, so thanks buddy! All in all, I think Dragon Disciple is upgraded version of Sorcerer, even without using Project Image/Simulacrum for extra spells. Having natural fire resist, extra AC and HP is worth it, as long as you are careful with spells in big battles and carry lot of scrolls.

Quick summary of spells:

L1: Blindness, Chromatic orb, Shield, Magic missile, Protection from evil
L2: Invisibility, Melf's acid arrow, Mirror Image, Blur, Resist Fear
L3: Skull trap, Haste, Flaming Arrow, Spell Thrust, Remove Magic
L4: Improved Invisibility, Stoneskin, Spirit Armor, Fireshield (blue), Otiluke's resilient sphere
L5: Animate Dead, Spell Shield, Spell Immunity, Breach, Lower Resistance
L6: Contingency, Protection from Magical Weapons, Spell Deflection, Globe of Invulnerability, True Sight
L7: Mordaiken's Sword, Spell Sequencer, Ruby Ray of Reversal, Power Word Stun, Project Image
L8: Incendiary Cloud, Spell Trigger, Pierce Shield, Protection from Energy
L9: Chain Contingency, Imprisonment, Spell Trap, Wish

Beside the usual - Stoneskin, Improved Invisibility and other protections, most valuable spell of this run were hasted Mordaiken's Swords. They took care of Kangaxx, Balor in Underdark (I did not want to imprison him) and Slayer. Incendiary Cloud was also great as I could stand in it without any worry because of the 100% fire resistance. Animate Dead was great in the start of BG2, but I stopped using it later as L5 spells were very important and having only 5 of them as Dragon Disciple hurt probably most of all other spell levels.

Project Image and Wish I chose only because of last battle in ToB if I ever got there. I couldn't see myself winning it without them.

Otiluke's resilient sphere was my last choice in L4 and I had it in Contigency - Helpless for the whole game afterwards with it. Luckily it never triggered, but it was nice to have a backup. I was thinking of choosing teleport field instead, but I was happy to have good Contigency if I make a grave mistake.

Journal of Firebeard

We have just defeated the chess board.

If I am able to defeat the entire tower, I expect to reach SoD. However, it's a BIG if.

EDIT

Well, I defeated the Demon Knight, summoned skeletons and monsters being useful, as was Dynaheir's Cloudkill spell. (It slightly injured him)

However, there was no Helm of Opposite Alignment.

I presume that's because of a mod.

Upon leaving, we were assaulted by assassins. Silence plus summoned skeletons and monsters was sufficient for victory.

Ryland (human blade by @Borco) & Kalam (halfling assassin), multiplayer run: Part 3 - Exploring wilderness continued

With the help of your local friendly ghoul and some useful protection from Ryland, the basilisks dropped like flies. Even the big one—presumably their supervisor—didn’t last long:

Trying to rob halflings? Let’s just say that’s not on the list of smart ideas. Kalam found this out the hard way when the homeowner parked himself in front of the only exit like a hairy, barefoot bouncer and refused to budge. Kalam, in peak diplomacy form, offered the unforgettable line:

"Come on tiny, give us another chance!"

Shockingly, that did not help.

Soon the halfling patrol was on its way, and Kalam only escaped thanks to a last-second invisibility potion and some very stealthy regret.

When your best friend is being chased by the Sword Coast’s most famous swordsman, you don’t ask questions—you hit back hard. Ryland stepped up like a bard at an open mic night and made sure Kalam’s would-be hunter was quickly demoted to Sword Coast’s most unconscious swordsman.

Kalam, ever the shadow-hugger, had his daggers ready when Tarnesh dared to threaten Ryland.

With a clean backstab and zero chill, he stood over the body and whispered:

"Nobody threatens my friend and lives."

Then there was Sendai. According to the Candlekeep archives (and several dramatic tavern monologues), she was a dark elven legend.

A true villain—commands an army of drow, throws mind flayers around like confetti, possibly delivers philosophical monologues mid-battle.

Instead?

Poof, gone.

Maybe they were just that strong now... or maybe “Sendai” is just a common name of Faerûn?

“I am Zal, fastest dar—”

That’s as far as he got before Ryland and Kalam turned him into the fastest pile of loot they’d seen all week. RIP Zal, we never did learn what you were the fastest at.

Brother killing brother? A classic Sword Coast family moment. What’s a bit of fratricide between adventurers?

Sneaking and backstabbing among the Sirines isn’t always a great idea. In fact, it’s usually a terrible one. But this time, it paid off—and our heroes left the beach with treasure, XP, and minimal trauma.

Their first major purchase? The legendary Claw of Kazgaroth. Because nothing says “responsible adult spending” like investing in a cursed item with style.

Famous bounty hunter? Pfft. Ryland and Kalam handled it like pros—with a mix of blades, spells, and blind optimism. Another day, another failed contract.

And finally, the basilisk hunting hobby? Yeah, it kinda got out of hand. Each petrified lizard just made them feel stronger and stronger.

Mephala, half-elven mage/thief: Introduction

Technical Notes:
Game version: BGEE 2.6.6.0
Mods: SCS v35.25, BG Tweaks (cosmetic changes)
SCS install: all tactical components and AI enhancements, limited spell revisions (only core spell-system changes, rebalancing of powerful spells, spells increased in power), no IWD spells, no spell school changes, no new arcane and divine spells, no revised elementals, no changes in shapeshifting spells
Difficulty: Insane

In parallel with our multiplayer sessions with Finarfin, I've also started a new singleplayer run - enter Mephala, a half-elven mage/thief.

1751548001105.jpeg

Starting proficiencies: 1x staves, 1x shortbows
Starting spells: Find Familiar, Blindness
Starting thieving abilities: Open Locks 25, Find Traps 10, Pick Pockets 35, MS 20, HiS 20, Set Traps 40, Detect Illusion 0

Mephala runs on the same install as Ryland & Kalam and part of her mission to test the waters of SCSv35, paving the way for our multiplayer efforts. That said, she's a fully realized character and will receive proper coverage.

Her title song is provided by none other than the mighty Graveyard! Cheerio!

Mephala, half-elven mage/thief: Part 1

Mephala's first words were neither "mama" nor "dada"; they were "Facio, Voco, Vere". Thanks to her freshly summoned familiar, now safely stored in her bag, Mephala will enjoy a sufficient HP cushion to survive a critical failure when setting traps at level 1. Not a big deal, but certainly helpful.

At Candlekeep, we raided a few chests to procure the Potion of Clarity and an antidote. Thanks to Imoen and Montaron, our potion stack was soon expanded with two Oils of Speed and a couple of healing potions.
1751548358191.jpeg
After we exchanged pleasantries with Elminster, Mephala picked up RoP+1 and continued to FAI without resting to ensure she'd arrive at the spot after dark. Her timing was perfect, and after collecting the Ring of Wizardry from its little hidey hole, she managed to sneak inside the inn unbothered. That's right—Tarnesh wasn't going to put another notch on his belt that night.
1751548270968.jpeg
We were greeted by Jopi, Ragefast's nephew. And you know what? I'll buy a good story any time, but c'mon—single class mages casting Barkskin? Sounds more like an urban legend to me.
1751548276879.jpeg
Mephala's reward for pushing through this all-nighter was a valuable addition to her growing potion collection - Jaheira's PoI. At that point, it was extremely tempting to simply book a room, order a pint, and call it a day, but we knew that we shouldn't linger in such an exposed place for too long. And so, instead of a king-size bed, Mephala opted for the more Spartan option à la haystack at the stables. Kudos to Bentley for maintaining such a liberal policy towards bums like us.

1751548412077.jpeg

We used the opportunity to scribe our few L1 scrolls and loaded up Mephala's book with 2x Blindness. In the morning, she donated 500gp to the Temple of Wisdom before taking care of Joia's little hobgoblin problem by landing the first backstab of her career.
1751548453378.jpeg
You may note that Mephala's wearing studded leather for extra protection - although the hobgoblins' bastard swords are comfortably slow, we didn't want to take unnecessary risks in case of a failed backstab. The remaining grunts were shot down at range and finished off with the help of Bentley's staff.
1751548467935.jpeg
1751548472774.jpeg
Onto the belt ogre! Temporarily stripped of her armor, Mephala tapped her book for Blindness—one for the ogre, another for the xvart spectator.
1751548487419.jpeg
1751548502043.jpeg
In Beregost, in order to secure us a gem bag and travellers' robes, we muscled through the Neera encounter by letting her eat all of the mage's spells and keeping Mephala miles away from Neera's friendly fire via Colour Spray. Thanks to Marl and Firebeard, we were also able to reach Mephala's first level-up as a thief (and boost her trap-setting skills).

Following a quick detour south to collect the Boots of Stealth, we returned to town where we delivered Mirianne's letter and looted the local mansion for the Wand of Lightning. The power of lightning is difficult to master—I'm still a complete padawan myself—but very few things in this game can convey the same level of instant satisfaction as a successful Lightning Bolt.

1751548570272.jpeg
By the way, the footnote says that Kivan survived.

Since Mephala was determined to keep the Ring of Wizardry, we had to operate with a limited budget when visiting Thalantyr. We didn't have the funds to splash on Wand of Sleep, so instead we just bought the potion case, 1x Potion of Freedom, 1x Potion of Strength, and a few L1 scrolls, before moving on towards Nashkel. Here we can see Mephala practicing how to pick up loot via the inventory screen without breaking stealth.
1751548590797.jpeg
I couldn’t tell you exactly how many times I played BG1. What I know for certain is that the meaning of this little conversation has been completely lost on me until now. I know you must be thinking "Bro, this was old news already back in 2003. Even his name is Foreshadow. Duh!"
1751548601953.jpeg
In Nashkel, Mephala retrieved the ankegh plate, stole the +1 short sword from the barracks, and stopped by the carnival to purchase the "special" potions. After finishing a couple of minor side quests in Beregost, we wrapped up the session with a long, Red Potion-powered spell scribing retreat at Mr Borland's place.

Mephala's currently L2 mage / L3 thief.
