What game are you currently playing?

KOTOR and (to a lesser extent) Neverwinter Nights had those incredible rtwp combat animations that were a treat to watch. What happened to that? Modern games have devolved in so many ways

Plus man, KotOR2 have probably the most badass group of antagonists I have ever seen in a computer game. This is peak writing form Avellone. I didn't realise how much I missed this game

It's one of my favorites! Hanharr is such a cool character, I often take him even when going Light Side.

I've done runs where I try to push everyones alignment as far as possible to the dark side (the force-heavy prestige classes give a bonus to this for some reason, as does charisma) to see if I can make even the light-side ones purely evil. Done all-gunner runs. Nonsense like that.

I wish they would have done more in this universe. Just a couple more games.

When I last posted to this thread, I was playing The Long Dark. you can't really "finish" the game unless you die of something, but I got to a point where I was set up to survive indefinitely without any real issues.

After that, I went back to my old standby, Terraria. There was a major update that included some great, big changes. I started a new world and have been working on that. Long story short, I'm at a point where I'm working on a somewhat complex world build, but a lot of the work of it is a little monotonous.

I'm thinking of mixing in another game to help break things up, but I'm not sure what. I don't really want to buy anything new (there are no good sales now anyway), so I'm trying to decide between a number of things I already have. I'm somewhat leaning towards New Vegas because the writing is so good, but a New Vegas run can be a big investment. However, I've evolved a build/challenge run for this game I really like, and created some of my own mods to support it. That's probably where I'll land.

Couldn't agree more. I'll add another one to the list: Dragon Age died to me already in DA2, but despite 3 being successful it's game mechanics wasn't my taste at all.

But I am one of the few who prefer Kotor 1 over 2, I think.

So, I've been playing Crimson Desert for the last couple of weeks and while it's definitely not the game for everyone and a flawed one, but it's a flawed game and I'm absolutely having a blast.

The world itself (eg terrain, locations, exploration) is one of the most enjoyable experiences since RDR2. There is absolutely no handholding and while UI is not making your life easier with discovering *dozens* gameplay mechanics, it's so much fun to uncovering them all. Special shoutout to many puzzles on this game. I usually tend to getting frustrated pretty quickly when I don't figure out solution, often just googling it out, but solving those puzzles in Crimson Desert is do much fun I haven't done that yet, even if some took me an hour or so to solve.

There are two main issues I have with his gsme, of which one is beyond repair. Mainly, story, narrative and main character. The latter two is simply terrible (really, just shamefully terrible). I wish Pearl Abyss decided to release this game even year later, but invested in good writing team and deliver story and narrative at better level. Story itself has some potentials and I often scribe my own ideas how this could be executed, unfortunately what PS offered is just bad.

The second issue is awful lighting, especially at nights and indoors. It's distractive, completely unrealistic and I hope team will fix it in upcoming patches.

Also a big shoutout to Pearl Abyss for tremendous post-launch support. They gave us couple of pretty hefty patches, each fixing stuff and adding feature *community requested for* and the roadmap they presented is looking fantastic too.

I'm over 50h in game and still deep into the first region (there are 5), so at this rate this will be 300-400h game for me. It's crazy how much content this game has. I'm hooked and loving it, despite the obvious flaws.

If you are looking for deep story and narrative, memorable characters, this is definitely not the game for you, but if you just look for a massive sandbox with interesting exploration, like for instance Zelda games on Nintendo Switch, you may love it.

I'm currently running Divinity: Original Sin 1 and 2 at the same time. I have never beaten either, and got filtered mostly through my lack of skill at the systems more than anything else (seriously, level scaling is absolutely brutal in this series). Surprisingly, both runs are going very well. I'm level 10 in DO2, having recently gotten to Driftwood, and 6 in DOS1, still clearing out the first map.

While DOS2 has a much more enjoyable world and companions, I really quite like the "partner system" of the first game and how your two created characters can grow to be admirable friends or rivals, or even ignore your decisions. It's refreshing and I wish they kept something similar going.

I've been able to more or less stay ahead of the difficulty curve by stealing everything that isn't nailed down. In both games. And it's incredibly entertaining, not tedious at all. In the first you can get rich really quick. It's more balanced in the second, but very helpful at the start of new chapters and especially at Fort Joy when you have very little. It's always nice when you have access to an entire merchants inventory, more or less, up for stealing. It's an intended part of the game so I don't feel bad about it.

I have VERY fond memories of D:OS I, the game I played after liking D:OS II. It indeed has a nice partner system, and I always found a lot of details there very cute. People online often refer to those as cringe and cartoony, but I didn't feel that. These games are excellent at allowing you to experiment with builds, approaches, tricks, and ways to start and win fights. Stealth is well-done. Enjoy!

Yes, I have always enjoyed the combat mechanics of these games and the build crafting even if I do think they level scale too hard.

My DOS 2 main has been a pure summoner up to this point, and now he has the Incarnate Champions i'm going to specialize him the rest of the way into other skills. His strength and intelligence are both respectable, so I might give him 2 points in warfare for that knockdown skill and the phoenix jump, maybe fill the rest in with magic skills. He has been solid the entire way and i've no complaints about how i've built him. Because his points have all gone into his summoning so far he's been the primary user of item-based skills. Blinding Radiance, Bull Rush, etc.

DOS1 my first toon is sword and shield, 1 point in hydrosophist for healing and rain and 1 point in aerothurge for teleportation and a long-range stun. The rest will be warrior skills. Second is an archer who i'm still undecided how to properly build. Might go into withcraft since it seems to have the best summons.

For my DOS I no-reload run, I had the following group:

1st MC: Man-at-Arms (1), Witchcraft (1), Charisma (2), Leadership (1), Crafting (2)
2nd MC: Marksman (2), Geomancer (1), Lucky Charm (2), Loremaster (1), Lockpicking (1)
Jahan NPC: Aerotheurge (2), Hydrosophist (2), Blacksmithing (1)
Wolgraff NPC: Scoundrel (2), Pyrokinetic (1), Pickpocketing (1), Sneaking (1)

So I guess combined Marksman with Geomancer. Aerotheurge + Hydrosophist is a staple combo ofc.

Playing very little lately, life has been quite busy, but managed to squeeze in another two hours or so on Dark Sun the other day. Finally learning how to use the staff for teleportation/fast travel, which made the game much more enjoyable. Running back and forth with respawning enemies is not my cup of tea. Cleared out the second village Gedron of missions and saved the town and the girl. It was fun and my party is still wrecking everything it fights. I've found, though this is not really a very inventive strategy per se, that using 4 times disablers (2 psi chars use mass dominate and 2 clerics use Hold person) in the big fights against 20 humans is very effective. Having all those arrows flying at me every turn chip away the health quickly, so disabling 5-6 enemies in a turn makes all the difference. Took down a big bad in Gedron, my second "boss fight". Had to reload once since Wyrmias his like a truck and killed a char per turn with 30+ damage per hit (my guys have 65-80 HP since I've multiclassed). I know there should be a third city and a forth place with elves for missions I should find next.

I have been playing mostly Dragon Age 2 lately, and yet another campaign of XCOM2: War of the Chosen, which has really, really grown on me.

Games I have finished lately were Boxes: Lost Fragments, a cute and relaxing little puzzle game, and ESO, in a manner of speaking. After a long break I went back to Elder Scrolls Online for a time this winter and "finished" it in the sense that I got that achievement I've wanted for a while so that I could leave in peace.

No more MMOs for me, but that solo arena is lovely and I've always wanted the trifecta. No reason to go back now.

Dragon Age 2 is nice enough for the story, and with limited time I like the relatively linear story and lack of open world exploration. The weird way of storytelling with gaps of a few years is a bit odd but I'll reserve judgment for after I finish.

XCOM2 has easily become one of my favorite games. Always more to learn, always different combinations to try out, always some research I couldn't fit into the last attempt, and easily played in bits and pieces with interruptions or longer breaks without losing track of what's going on.

Next on my list was going to be Assassin's Creed: Shadows, but I tried at a colleague's PC and it's giving me as much motion sickness as Odyssey did. Fortunately I managed to fulfill a dream and visit Japan in reality last year, so I'm not that sad about not being able to visit it in-game.

Haven't bought any new games lately, because I'm working through my backlog or playing familiar stuff like XCOM2. And then there's always Skyrim, which I still prefer unmodded for some reason.
