Ren fair for me captures a very specific age, and maybe a spirit, though that might be bit of a stretch. The era would be like 1993, probably with a knock off Metallica t-shirt underneath whatever thrown together medieval tunic. I feel somehow certain that rabbit might have been an option on the menu, or some sort of pheasant or quail at least. Likely with one of those drinking horns too, for drunk Boromir, with that same look. But of course I wouldn't have been old enough to drink yet, so maybe it had Pepsi in it? Seems a safe bet! I'm not sure if anyone showed out for the various carnival antics like a joust or climbing on rope ladders, or just to admire the swords and the dresses, though it had a vibe for sure. Like if it's blended somehow with those sticks that are used to juggle other sticks, or happy hippie games of that sort. It's gotta be best somewhere out in the sticks right, or in the wine country maybe, and a slight remove. Though the pop version on that would be like Medieval Times in the Cable Guy I guess right? I feel like that's the enduring impression. Like the Wizards are maybe onto some Medieval Times torture chamber room showcase in Anaheim, with the corpo gift shop attached. Like that's the theme park variant on it, doubtless. The place where they used to hold the actual ren fair is probably a starbucks by now hehe. So it's all a bit fleeting. Whatever can be said about recapturing the spirit of those ages past, or in D&D a twist on the same, fear of spontaneous time travel is a pretty fun premise though I think. Anything with a Dark Goonies quality to it there's a good chance I'm on board, but I'm not sure if the ship will sail or if there would be skeletons left to man the crew!?
