We joined up with Drizzt and Wulfgar and went o the nine hells where our first opponents were demonic guardians, tough, but beatable.

Baldr030.jpg

Next, we killed a demonknight and then a greater tanari
Baldr031.jpg
.

Then took on Belhifet which was a tough battle which needed two strength potions, three slow poison and two of extra healing.

Baldr035.jpg

Here's the reason why it was so tough!

Baldr036.jpg

Just as well that it was slow. Drizzt was able to hit, run, and hide repeatedly. Even so, Belhifet did manage to hit Drizzt from time to time.

Another Demonknight was the next to fall.

Baldr038.jpg

2 Slayer Shadows didn't yield much experience considering how tough they were.
Baldr040.jpg

The last foe in the nine hells was Marilith.

Baldr041.jpg

Another difficult battle.

Now picked up Bruenor.

We joined up with Cattie Brie whereupon we were attacked by Errtu and others. We fled followed by Errtu whom we killed, Cattie Brie being killed in the battle.

Baldr045.jpg

We raised her with a scroll. The big question is what to do next. We have succeeded in rescuing her, so do we just continue on our way, or return to kill Jarlaxle et al?

EDIT

Decided to take them on.

The weapons and armour of Artemis Enterai will be great for Regis.

We have been transported to an area where vampires are commonplace together with wailing death and mummies. Talk about being difficult! I have had greatewr malaison, and charm cast om my mage. I am just going to have to wait for the spells to wear out. Annoying!

Baldr049.jpg

Baldr050.jpg

I have found a tanari summoning idol. :)
I have now returned to Bruenor's Cabin.
From there I went to Kangaxx. I found that with my current equipment, I can't defeat him. I was lucky to escape!
Potions to protect from lightning are vital. I'll remember that for another playthrough.
Next time an Undead Hunter could be useful against the vampires.
Now with the Bear Clan. The Frost Giants are tough as well. A lot of resting required.
EDIT
Now reached the harpies. Can't cast silence since no cleric.
The Drizzt Saga would have been much easier with a cleric in the party. I should have just let Cattie-Brie stay dead in order to keep Jet' Laya.
I'll remember that for future runs.
One of the problems with this installation is that if you get one NPC to leave, they ALL leave and it is impossdible to leave the region and go home.
With previous installations you could leave without finishing the saga.

I bade farewell to Drizzt and his friends, and used Movedto... to get back to Baldur's Gate as there is a bug that stopped us geting back there.
I sold a lot of surplus equipment and bought some wands with many charges.
The only problem now is that my character won't go where I tell him to go. He starts moving and then stops.
I'm thinking that there is a memory problem.

I tried exporting my dragon's disciple into the beginning of BG1. He was still buggy so there must have been something that went wrong in Icewind dale. When he was level drained, or the like.
I'll try with another character and avoid too many side quests.

Sent a mixed good party through Black Pits and currently in Candlekeep

I am thinking of using these characters one at a time. I'm not familiar with Dragon disciples or Bounty Hunters, but will start off with Helma the Cleric.

Her portrait is trimmed artwork by Aleksey Iromonik and originally was Runemera, a dwarf paladin' The portrait works equally well as a dwarven Priest of Helm.

I have deleted a lot of old games in case the bug is caused by lack of memory.

I am intending soloing the game with Helma and have just returned to Bergost after completing the Nashkel Mines.
I forgot to return the ring, but not a major problem, I can do that later.
Killed Basilus, Zargal et al.
Helped the archaeologist and Brage.
Visited Durlag's for the tomes and now at the bandit camp.
Helma has now cleared up outside the Cloakwood mines.

Baldr081.jpg
Baldr082.jpg

I then wended my way to Davaeorn and slew him.

Some powerful enemies were defeated on the way To Baldur's Gate

Baldr083.jpg
Baldr084.jpg

A combination of Glyphs of Warding and a skeleton warrior ambush was enough to prevail at the Iron Throne. The Glyphs were triggered out of my range of sight, so I only discovered afterwards that they had killed two powerful enemies.
Under Candlekeep skeletons were invaluable. Due to traps that I am unable to disable, protections have been vital.

No bugs so far, which makes me think that my game just couldn't manage the amount of memory needed in doing the extra quests in the mods.
Sadly not doing the DSoSC quests means that I have missed out on both tomes and experience.

Baldur's Gate was no problem. I was victorious at the Ducal Palace and finally in the Underdark.

I discovered that leading Saravok onto traps was far more successful than using wand of the heavens or using brute force.

Now started SoD with 500,000 experience. before this, I had slightly over a million experience. A loss of 500,000. :(

I've just realised that upon leaving the Black Pits, characters have 600.000 experience, greater than the Level Cap in SoD!!

I have completed the prologue of SoD and am now at the Ducal Palace. It seems that I have been at the experience cap for SoD from the start.
There were chests that I couldn't open despite being buffed to the max. :(

Baldr092.jpg

SoD is designed to be played with a party, so I will go with the flow, perhaps switching back to solo in SoA.

I think that I will play BG1 with a party in future as the battles were too repetitive with just a cleric.

I will come back to this game later.

I came across a mod NPC called Ishlilka in my last game, whom I have never recruited. Indeed I have hardly played Wizard Slayers at all, so I think that this run through could be interesting.
This game will be called "A game of three Halves:
A Half-orc Inquisitor
A Halfling Bounty Hunter, and
A half-elf Dragon Disciple.

Baldr096.jpg

Baldr098.jpg

Baldr099.jpg

Ishlilka joined us at the FAI. Has decent enough stats, but wouldn't have chosen the spear proficiency myself. Yet another Half, this time Half-orc. I wasn't keen on the portrait that came with the mod, so changed it to a trimmed image found on the web. As can be seen, Imoen is still with us. However, I decided to leave her at the FAI, largely because I couldn't have her in my party in SoD. Ishlilka proved invaluable against Tarnesh.

Baldr101.jpg

We met up with Tenya, who, despite her tender years was far more experienced than the rest of us!

Baldr104.jpg

We then came across a lot of Ankheg and the body of Farmer Brun's Son which we returned to him. As a result all of us became at least level 2.
We cleared the road to Nashkel and returned to Beregost, reaching level 3 and becoming heroes in the process.

Ishlilka now has a pip in two handed weapons and *** in spears. ( I like the dialogue with her, but a slight downside is that she hasn't noticed that I am a half-orc too! )

Dorn joined us until we killed Kryll. He is now waiting for us at the FAI.

After doing a few minor quests our reputation is 20 and my charisma is 20. Time for a shopping spree!

Baldr109.jpg

However, due to a visit to the temple, Gavin joined us and we went to kill Bassilus. Not only did we kill him, we also bumped into Zargal and his cronies, all of whom we killed.

Ishlilka's quest didn't trigger. I'm not sure about the reason. I got a no valid replies due to Tenya being in the party, so will try playing without having Tenya and Ishlilka in the party concurrently. I got a VERY good roll. See next post. It may just be a bug. We'll see. I do like her mod.

When I said in my last post that Ishlilka's quest didn't trigger, I think that I just didn't wait long enough. The blurb on the web about the quest was misleading. I played another game and her quest didn't trigger until some time after finishing the Nashkel mines. I haven't started it yet though, just been told what to do. To avoid the "no valid replies," all I needed was to have NPCs n the party who weren't from mods. I'll post about this run later. I'm enjoying having different NPCs in the party.

Yee-hoo
After 50 days of adventuring, I have discovered where to go to fulfill Ishlilka's quest. I'll be able to do it much quicker in future. :)
I have so many quests to do at the moment that prioretising them is difficult.

Ishlilka's quest, followed by picking up Dynaheir might be best.

One thing that I did differently was to boost Imoen's pickpocketing ability prior to pickpocketing Jenna and Morik, two characters introduces by EE and not used.
By so doing, I acquired some verry useful items of equipment prior to a failed attempt which made them hostile.

I was concerned that others in the inn would turn hostile but they didn't. In future, there is no need to buff Imoen as if they go hostile, I can just kill them.

Items that belong to them is a belt that speeds paladins, Legacy of the masters gauntlets, excellent scimitars and daggers, masamune ( a +2 katana), and Shadow Armour +3. All good stuff. (Of course, they are powerful fighters and therefore dangerous!)

It's been interesting having Xan instead of Dynaheir in the party, but since I can't take him to SoD, probably won't take him again.

I will attempt Ishlilka's quest, and if successful, will start a new run to get a good party to take into SoD.

EDIT

Found Ishlilka's quarry and killed him. :) Will now start from the beginning playing either a cleric of Helm or a Paladin of some kind.

As the game had a half-orc as a Blackguard, I decided that having one as a paladin was OK.
Portrait from AI.

Baldr033.jpg

Baldr038.jpg

Currently Level 5 Reputation 20.

About to pick up party members

Thoughts are Tenya, Ishlilka, Dynaheir and a thief, but which thief?

Warning: If you attack Jenna or Morik in the FAI, Jaheira will attack you! If however you recruit Jaheira and Khaled first and leave them outside the inn, it is safe to kill Jenna and Morik.

Baldr039.jpg

She joined at level 1. Perhaps earlier recruitment would have been better!! However ankheg hunting rapidly brought her up to level 4.

Before that Tenya joined, She is a very good cleric though doesn't have much strength. The mithril armour from Morik's body suddenly became a lot more valuable, for though our other suits of armour are stronger, she can't wear them without buffs. She will soon be at level 6.

Baldr042.jpg

At this stage we had to choose between Garrick and Morwen as a magic user. Morwen, a skald, was chosen due to her personal equipment, but there wasn't much in it. She's an excellent archer and good at identifying, but nowhere near as good at pickpocketting as Garrick.

EDIT

Currently we are all level 5 except for Ishlilka who is level 4.

Baldr043.jpg

Gavin joined us until we were summoned back to the temple and given the task of killing Mutamin. He then left the party. A bit earlier Safana joined us and we raided a nearby cave. Now off to deal with Mutamin.

Now headi

We bumped into yet another bard at the carnival. She is not so experienced but I prefer her company as she is neutral good. She may not stay in the party very long as Dynaheir may take her place, since I don't think that I can take Keiria into SoD. Compared to Morwen, constitution is very poor.

Baldr045.jpg

Whilst trying to rescue Dynaheir, the mages used confusion and as a result, we had difficulty surviving. Consequently we returned to the carnival for R&R.

Baldr046.jpg

Ishlilka doesn't think much of Safana, but as all the other thieves that I have encountered have been evil, she'll have to do for the present.
She is slowly changing her mind however.
We have killed Mutamin, using up nearly all the charges in our wand of fire in the process.
We sold the wand to Aerie and buying it back cost nearly all our gold.

We then went into the mines, killed Mulahey, and upon exiting, killed lamalha and others. In Nashkel we killed another assassin and discovered the location of Ilshilka's quarry.

We killed him and his cohorts and afterwards rescued some slaves before escorting them to the FAI.

We are now all level 6 apart from Safana and Tenya who are level 7. Reputation still 20.

After rescuing Dynaheir we left Morwen with Aerie.

We killed Lethe, the one responsible for the death of Tenya's mother.

Baldr050.jpg

We exonerated Brage and rescued a boy from a baby dragon before going to the bandit camp.

Summoned skeletons were enough to beat Davaeorn, the party only joining in the fight towards the end when he had no spells left.

Baldr004.jpg

Things did not go so well against Wendall, largely due to not taking him seriously enough. He cast entangle, not particularly serious in itself, but then he cast rigid thinking, again not too serious in itself, but after killing Wendall, I attacked Safana, and because of the entangle spell she was unable to flee and as a result got killed. If Tenya had cast silence there would have been no problem.

I have never really soloed this game. I have done games where my main has outshined the party so I basically left them behind, but even those runs have run out of steam. I figure I would post to this thread because I feel like I have already clogged up the forum with too many unfinished game runs. I'm not sure I far I'll get with this one, to be honest.

I am hoping for no reloads, but aiming for minimal. I'll keep a reload count, per the rules at the start of the thread. The only weird thing I'm doing with reloads is reloading after a failed pickpocket attempt, but only the first one. I think a failed pickpocket equating to the whole town wanting to slaughter you is a little extreme. I interpret the first attempt as testing the waters or sizing up the mark. If it fails, I reload (not added to the count) and I cannot try again until my pickpocket skill improves. I don't have any mods installed except the standard fix packs. I'm playing classic (not EE) straight through. I also didn't hit the reroll button at character creation. The first roll I got was the roll I used. This character really doesn't need much anyway.

It's a RP run and my character is none other than Garrett from the Thief trilogy of games (Thief: The Dark Project, Thief: The Metal Age, and Thief: Deadly Shadows). It is a little debatable to consider the third game in this concept. It wasn't a bad game, but it had a different feel than the first two and some people had opinions about that. As far as I'm concerned, it passes. It was written primarily by Terri Brosius, who was worked on the prior two games and was the voice of Viktoria (major character in the series) as well as the voice of SHODAN (one of the best antagonists and from another series by the same studio).

Garrett is the eponymous thief from the series and I'll just be playing him as I understood him from the game. I'll also be building the character as close as I can to my interpretation of his character, including attributes and proficiencies. I'll log his run in the way that he would narrate cutscenes in the original games. I normally play good guys in things, but Garrett is one of my all time favorite characters. Let's just say that he lives in a grey area on a good day. The writers just did really well executing the concept of these games and had just enough depth without bogging you down with a lore dump. Like, you could infer so much based on what you were told. It was really well done.

In any event, here comes our Bhaalspawn...

Screenshot (1084).png

Race: Human. Obviously.

Alignment: Neutral. I might have gone with Chaotic Neutral, but the people that raised him (The Keepers) were a very neutral organization whose mission it was to maintain balance in the world. Even though Garrett parted ways with the Keepers, he's not an anarchist. In a way, the stability of law and order in his city helps support the prosperity he purloins on his heists. He does have the opportunity to let a chaotic force reign supreme, but considers that a really unattractive option.

Strength is 11. He can hold his own against a single guard or a weaker creature, but he relies more on grace than brute strength. Sometimes he has to drag the bodies of guards he has knocked out to hide them and that can slow him down a bit.

Dexterity 18. No brainer. He survives combat by avoiding the enemy's attacks, not tanking them. He is a great shot with a bow. He is a master thief, probably the best where he's from.

Constitution 15. This is kind of a tough one. As I said earlier, he's not a tank. But he's not a weakling either. He has great endurance for running, climbing, and hanging from a rope.

Intelligence 15. He is very knowledgeable, not just about his profession, but of a lot of the lore related to his profession. He knows the value of things. Some of his heists, especially in ancient places, require some puzzle solving. He is also talented with putting the pieces together when it comes to the major players in his city, and often doing so with very little information.

Wisdom 15. He is quite perceptive and has great instincts. He can usually smell a trap before he walks into it, except for that one time...

Charisma 9. Overall, he blends in. While he doesn't win friends and influence people, per se, he can easily manage the right network for his needs. Nobody is cutting him any favors for free, though, be it his fence or any employers.

Weapon proficiencies: In combat, Garrett will only use weapons from the trilogy, That means the short bow, the short sword, the dagger, and the club (though it was a blackjack in the games, but close enough). He will have to wait until level 4 to get his pip in blunt weapons for the club.

And away we go...

"The essence of balance is detachment. To embrace a cause, to grow fond or spiteful, is to lose one's balance, after which, no action can be trusted. Our burden is not for the dependent of spirit." - Mayar, the Third Keeper

I knew this day was coming. The Keeper of the Tomes always seemed to have a bone to pick with me and gave Father a hard time for being here. I'm sure they were looking for a reason to send us on our way and it looks like they've found it. The funny thing is that I'm fine with it. The pickings are slim here. Most of the locals live pretty simple lives and most of the travelers that come through are book-laden scholars, not merchants laden with valuables. I don't know where we're going, but surely whatever it is will be a better fit for my talents.

I took the liberty of acquiring what “parting gifts” I could from the good people of Candlekeep. Father used to lecture me in the early days whenever I got caught stealing. He would have some parable about how dining rooms and latrines were kept distant from each other for a reason. The lectures stopped when I decided to be more careful and scale back. I think he thinks it was just a phase, and that works for me. In any event, I didn't have to be as discerning now since we are taking a one-way trip out of here. I did pretty well, too. I was able to fence my take at Winthrop's, not that he knew where my haul came from, to have a hefty 250 gold in my purse going out the door. I also managed to acquire a few magic potions along the way. On top of that, I managed to pilfer an enchanted dagger from Fuller. That, with the studded leather armor and short bow I picked up at Winthrop's, has me pretty well geared up for what's to come.

And, I certainly think there's more to come. Two would-be-assassins attacked me as I was looking for things to steal. The Keeper didn't care for us, but this was certainly beyond the pale for him. There is certainly something happening that I don't know about, but I intend to find out.

I forgot to mention that I put all my starting points into locks. It helps with the prologue, but it also makes the most sense with the character. Being a resident, Garrett would not need to sneak around too much. He has also probably never seen a trap. There is an argument for picking pockets, but a place like Candlekeep has many secrets kept under lock and key, so infiltration would be more compelling. The only chests I could not get were one of the chests in Winthrop's Inn (I think you need to be a halfling with maxed out locks to have a shot at that one), and the chests in the guard barracks (there's a guard walking around and Fuller looking right at you. I might have been able to loot the latter and make a run for it, but (RP-wise) I think I would have trouble getting out of Candlekeep fast enough.
