Now, there is one spell I personally like the most in the whole game - Baleful Polymorph. It always brings me good memories of turning Firkraag into a squirrel in BG2 under SCS with all possible buffs for enemies. So now when Octavia has access to lvl 5 spells (and later we'll heighten this spell), we try to Polymorph a dangerous enemy whenever we get a chance. What can be better than stunning a Linnorm? Turning a ferocious creature into a cute dog. Permanently.
It's a shame Persistent Metamagic isn't in the game! I adore Save or Die spells; Wand of polymorph in BG1 was one of those stupid-powerful items to clear through the game and also much of SoD: Demons? Squirrel. Neothelid? Squirrel. Dragon? Squirrel.

Bronn The Thundercaller. Update 11.

We reached the 11th level. Amiri got her last (5th) fighter level for Weapon Training (Polearms), Valerie started her path as the Stalwart Defender. But before that, we followed and completed the Season of the Bloom questline. No big challenges there, although we had to be extra careful not to get overwhelmed.

That said, a Greater Owlbear-like Treant could end the run if we continued to be too self-confident.

However, all ended well when an enemy hydra became a dog.

The approach where we first complete quests, then spend time on Kingdom tasks, has continued to work. We finished the Season of the Bloom with 190 days left until the next Baldhill attack. In 100 days, we were able to add all available regions, build all the needed artisan shops and do all their quests (so far). And we still have 90 days left. Here is how our Kingdom currently looks.

We don't feel there is any kingdom task that we don't have time for. We usually don't have bad odds for solving problems, and we have enough crisis points. So I think the approach where you don't force the kingdom stuff early in the game but instead get into difficult encounters works very effectively (the Kingdom management is on Normal).

Haha, I had completely missed that update post this week.

Greater Owlbear-like Treant? What's that? Some sort of hybrid creature?

The Baleful Polymorph looks cool. I love polymorph spells. It's always fun to turn huge fierce enemies into squirrels, chickens, or in this case, a dog.
Like the typical fairy tale witch who turns misbehaving people into a toad :)

I decided to do a second run. Charname is a Tiefling bard, and my idea is to go for the Duelist prestige class. Admittedly, it's a long road, since that class needs a +6 base attack bonus to unlock, and fighters get there way earlier than bards. So I'm taking a few levels in Aldori Defender. The stats that I'm prioritizing are Dex, Int and Cha. I'm basically going for Duelist mostly for roleplaying reasons.

Party composition is: Charname, Jaethal, Jubilost, Octavia, Regongar, and Ekundayo. Eventually I'll replace Jubilost with Nok-Nok. I'm trying to use the NPCs that I didn't use much in my first run.

Right now I'm at the Troll fortress. Here are some screenshots from my favorite moment in the game, the moment when Harrim looks at the destroyed statue of Torag:

Wow, a second run so shortly after finishing for the first time?
That's high praise for the game, especially since you said you usually play more open source than commercial games.
Or do you usually play a game more often once you have begun?
I'd be curious to hear if that's a general habit of yours, or if this game has something special for you that gives a particular replay value?

Good luck to Zaphira!

I've been considering using a level cap remover for WoTR but I'm afraid it would break something when the DLC is released... I even found one that won't use the faster XP table from the Mythic Hero path but the actual XP table... still, I will go on accumulating XP and will wait for the DLC to be released...

For contrast this is me just at the beginning of the next chapter:

Some highlights form Vordakai's Tomb at level 12. I did manage the run to Vordakai himself in one rest on challenging which I am always really pleased about - it's really tough imo, especially taking Tristian instead of Harrim - though saving a few Searing Lights to make stage 1 of Vordakai easy is nice. had a couple of reloads because I forgot about Cephael and he hit me with Enervation too many times without my precious limited Death Wards.

Almost every single spell slot used by the end, as well as some wands, scrolls and a whole host of potions to stay alive.

Winning Amiri's Duel on Challenging as a Single-class Barbarian

This duel is notoriously difficult. Technically you cannot win - but you can force outside intervention if you get Armag's health down low enough.

Method 1 - Heart of Ira
Invisible Heart of Ira. This works on almost everything in the game. It is also lame imo.

Method 2 - Kiting
He can be kited endlessly. True pro-strats.

Method 3 - Fancy multi-classing
Multi-class Amiri specifically to win. The easiest way, but goes against my gaming ethics!

Method 4 - the Buff + Hitting way
Be a level 12 barbarian.
Make sure to put 12 points in Use Magic Device. Doesn't have to be one every level but make sure they go in. Thi is because you need to be able to self buff from scrolls.
As a barbarian you're never going to up your AC high enough to reliably stand there so instead take a multi-pronged approach: AC, HP, Concealment and lots of Damage

Gear: Opressor, +6 Str belt, Lightest Touch, Cloak of the Winter Wolf, Sparkling Helmet, Amulet of Mighty Fists +3
Feats: Nothing special, all for team-play really but WF (Bastard Swords) and Improved Crit (Bastard Swords)
Rage Powers: Lethal line, Animal Fury, Beast Totem line

Long-ish lasting Scrolls:
False Life
False, Life, Greater
Stoneskin
Mirror Image

1 Minute Scrolls:
Shield
Divine Favor

Wands:
Lead Blades
Haste

Potions:
Blur (only if your running displacement (5 round) rather than an IA potion which has a >1 min duration)
Barkskin
Enlarge Person
Aid
Bear's Endurance
Shield of Dawn
Greater Invisibility (or displacement)
Acid Oil

Auto-attack and rage him down. Near guaranteed win.

I've been testing one of the mods for P:K, the Kingdom Resolution mod. Among other things, it lets you reduce the time that it takes to complete events and projects, including ranking up the advisor's stats. You can reduce everything to just one day. Pretty interesting.

Also, compared to the way in which mods are made and executed in, say, the Infinity Engine games, the mods for Pathfinder:Kingmaker seem to be much, much more user-friendly to use. As for the code, the Kingdom Resolution mod is basically a .dll file, and the source is mostly C#, with a little bit of JSON in one or two files. And even though I'm using Linux, I didn't really have any serious problems running all of this Windows-stuff with the Wine emulator.

This game (and its community) just seems more and more awesome to me, as I find out these things.
