Congratulations,
@m7600! 10/10 is very high praise. It's good that you'd given a commercial game a go and found it to be worth it. Before 2016, there was no Owlcat Games. The studio was founded by former members of Nival Interactive, responsible for strategy games like Heroes of Might & Magic 5. Alexander Mishulin (Creative Director on P:K) was that game's creative director, and one of its lead designers (you can see him in the
credits from 2006). Now, Owlcat Games are known for the creation of the most successful heir of Infinity Engine-era RPGs. Isn't it like a miracle we could watch with our own eyes? And the best part here is that they haven't finished yet. With each new game, they will get better and better.
While "industry titans" like BioWare experienced all sorts of troubles, new creations by Owlcat Games and Larian are getting more and more popularity, deservedly so. Your example, m7600, is a good illustration of how a player not usually following new shiny games, appreciated some sincere and honest work, done with souls put into it (of course, not without faults and negatives). When I first played P:K, I saw a lot of premise and potential. I'm looking forward to playing their second game to be able to witness the progress and development from P:K.
Bronn The Thundercaller. Update 10.
Some of the areas we discovered after reaching lvl 10 (which happened exactly during the second Baldhill attack - and reaching that level so early in the game felt substantial, especially considering we don't use options to grant XP only to current party members), thanks to higher Perception, provided nice challenges.
"Greater Cyclops" of the 24th level. We could only defeat him thanks to heavy debuffs.
Or the fight vs the Poisonous Primal Hydra and nixies. I can't imagine handling this encounter without multiple Dazzling Displays.
What could end the run was an ambush, though, not a pre-set encounter. Two Bloody Bones Beasts. Bloody bones, that is an appropriate curse phrase here. 40+ damage, high APR, rage, undead. We barely survived, using all our damage wands and whatnot. The party was without many of its spells after that Hydra encounter, which made things much more different. I don't think any reliable strategy existed to survive in this fight, we just got bloody lucky.
After handling these undead beasts, we were much more cautious when approaching a Ferocious Devourer. This creature drained a few levels from Valerie but thankfully our party had spells prepared to restore levels and make Valerie immune to subsequent level drain attacks.
Now, there is one spell I personally like the most in the whole game - Baleful Polymorph. It always brings me good memories of turning Firkraag into a squirrel in BG2 under SCS with all possible buffs for enemies. So now when Octavia has access to lvl 5 spells (and later we'll heighten this spell), we try to Polymorph a dangerous enemy whenever we get a chance. What can be better than stunning a Linnorm? Turning a ferocious creature into a cute dog. Permanently.
