What makes the fey shifter so good:

Just like a regular shifter they get Wis to AC and up to an additional +5AC at level 20
The get Evasion for free.
They get Sneak attack at rogue progression.
They get 2 rogue talents which means Uncanny Dodge + whatever you would like.
They get wings
They get concealment
They get DR/cold Iron
They have full BAB
They have strong Fort and Reflex Saves
They have weak Will saves but they get a +6 bonus against mind effecting spells by level 20 which helps make up.
SR 30 at level 20.
They can till pick three, yeah three additional minor aspects which all activate when you have minor fey aspect up. So that's Aspect of Tiger for +6 dex, Aspect of Spider for +6AC and Aspect of wolverine for +4 con, and +120HP (yes, +120 HP and the extra HP from extra con.)
At level 19 their claws bypass DR N/-

A little bug: you can equip quarterstaff of slip (+1 Competence AC) then transform and you still get the goodness.

Works well with a big hitter behind like a Fauchard Sword Saint, and an Alchemist for shield and also to blast down anything which needs touch AC.

Went with the following for that midnight isles run:
Tank/DPS: Feyform Shifter
DPS: Fauchard Sword Saint
Ranged DPS: Mutation Warrior
Support/Bombs: Grenadier
Healer/Buffer: Glaive wielding Life Oracle with Pranked Curse for MI
Rays/Buffs: Evocation Wizard

Absurdly powerful, with minimal CC.

FInally did it, Core, Last Azlanti defeat of Nilkoth, a 4 phase fight which is hands down one of the hardest in the game.

Feyform Shifter, Mutation Warrior Archer and Sword Saint are hands down complete mincemakers. Alchemist bit the dust in phase 2 but would have wrecked the final whase with holy bombs if they'd had the chance, Raycaster wizard was useless as always, and The Channel Oracle preformed admirably as my Heal and buff-bot, plus all those skellies. I think I would swap out the Wizard for something more useful, conj specialist CC person instead maybe. total spare wheel.

The next DLC Lord of Nothing happens in Act V of the main campaign. So, for anyone doing a playthrough who wishes to try it out, stop somewhere in Act IV :)

Damn son;

Oracle's Nature's Whisper and AC Bonus of the Scaled Fist Monk simultaneously gave a bonus to defense — fixed;

The Hex Shaman's Chant ability mistakenly extended the effect of the Protective Luck spell — fixed;

The Crane Wing trait worked if the character had a weapon or shield in the second hand, or the weapon was held with a two-handed grip — fixed;

Archmage's armor no longer triggers from items;

I bought WotR today during the Steam Autumn Sale because it was 70% off. No idea when I'll get to play it and if I should play Kingmaker first, but I wanted to have it in my library so that I can use the opportunity to try it when I feel like it.
Added to the "some day" list...
If you play anything above core difficulty have a buff bot installed. This game DEMANDS prebuffing in the higher difficulties.

You should find like 240h of spare time, give or take, first ;)

Joking aside, it's a great game. Much better than Kingmaker, IMO, from a narrative and story point of view, with lots of various gameplay mechanics. Some of those mechanics are great, some less great, but definitely not as annoying as kingdom management in Kingmaker. And the character development is just crazy, even without DLCs and new fancy archetypes. It's simply overwhelming.

Overall, I very much recommend it. Second best crpg I've played over the last few years, right after BG3.

240hs if the Krogan is only playing original content... add 30hs if playing the DLCs that adds to the campaign... and there'll be one more next year.

That's only 10 planetary rotations where you come from, isn't it?

I don't think I'd want to play higher difficulties especially on a first attempt, unless I realize I get very bored. I've heard about the prebuffing though, so I appreciate the advice.

Yeah, I'd say WoTR is more difficult than BG3, but in a more math-calculating kind of way. It's all about beating enemy's AC or MR, rather than correct positioning and higher ground advantage. It requires a different approach than BG3, that's for sure.

Some advice from my own. There will be fight you will feel are impossible to win... well, they are not. I usually managed to find a way of carefully studying my options (spells, items, abilities, consumables, everything). This games really can put every asset you have to use. Don't hoard potions or other consumable, use it and use them often. Don't be shy of using summons, those can often save your skin. And use touch attacks (melee or ranged), as those ignore armour (except natural armour). Ray spells are especially devastating. Those are my tips from the top of my head, those I remember after all this time, anyway.

Also don't take unfair difficulty lightly. It has that name for a reason, like enemies 10 levels above you with insta kill abilities. That's the reason you need prebuffing in higher difficulty settings.
