I have never really soloed this game. I have done games where my main has outshined the party so I basically left them behind, but even those runs have run out of steam. I figure I would post to this thread because I feel like I have already clogged up the forum with too many unfinished game runs. I'm not sure I far I'll get with this one, to be honest.
I am hoping for no reloads, but aiming for minimal. I'll keep a reload count, per the rules at the start of the thread. The only weird thing I'm doing with reloads is reloading after a failed pickpocket attempt, but only the first one. I think a failed pickpocket equating to the whole town wanting to slaughter you is a little extreme. I interpret the first attempt as testing the waters or sizing up the mark. If it fails, I reload (not added to the count) and I cannot try again until my pickpocket skill improves. I don't have any mods installed except the standard fix packs. I'm playing classic (not EE) straight through. I also didn't hit the reroll button at character creation. The first roll I got was the roll I used. This character really doesn't need much anyway.
It's a RP run and my character is none other than Garrett from the Thief trilogy of games (Thief: The Dark Project, Thief: The Metal Age, and Thief: Deadly Shadows). It is a little debatable to consider the third game in this concept. It wasn't a bad game, but it had a different feel than the first two and some people had opinions about that. As far as I'm concerned, it passes. It was written primarily by Terri Brosius, who was worked on the prior two games and was the voice of Viktoria (major character in the series) as well as the voice of SHODAN (one of the best antagonists and from another series by the same studio).
Garrett is the eponymous thief from the series and I'll just be playing him as I understood him from the game. I'll also be building the character as close as I can to my interpretation of his character, including attributes and proficiencies. I'll log his run in the way that he would narrate cutscenes in the original games. I normally play good guys in things, but Garrett is one of my all time favorite characters. Let's just say that he lives in a grey area on a good day. The writers just did really well executing the concept of these games and had just enough depth without bogging you down with a lore dump. Like, you could infer so much based on what you were told. It was really well done.
In any event, here comes our Bhaalspawn...
Race: Human. Obviously.
Alignment: Neutral. I might have gone with Chaotic Neutral, but the people that raised him (The Keepers) were a very neutral organization whose mission it was to maintain balance in the world. Even though Garrett parted ways with the Keepers, he's not an anarchist. In a way, the stability of law and order in his city helps support the prosperity he purloins on his heists. He does have the opportunity to let a chaotic force reign supreme, but considers that a really unattractive option.
Strength is 11. He can hold his own against a single guard or a weaker creature, but he relies more on grace than brute strength. Sometimes he has to drag the bodies of guards he has knocked out to hide them and that can slow him down a bit.
Dexterity 18. No brainer. He survives combat by avoiding the enemy's attacks, not tanking them. He is a great shot with a bow. He is a master thief, probably the best where he's from.
Constitution 15. This is kind of a tough one. As I said earlier, he's not a tank. But he's not a weakling either. He has great endurance for running, climbing, and hanging from a rope.
Intelligence 15. He is very knowledgeable, not just about his profession, but of a lot of the lore related to his profession. He knows the value of things. Some of his heists, especially in ancient places, require some puzzle solving. He is also talented with putting the pieces together when it comes to the major players in his city, and often doing so with very little information.
Wisdom 15. He is quite perceptive and has great instincts. He can usually smell a trap before he walks into it, except for that one time...
Charisma 9. Overall, he blends in. While he doesn't win friends and influence people, per se, he can easily manage the right network for his needs. Nobody is cutting him any favors for free, though, be it his fence or any employers.
Weapon proficiencies: In combat, Garrett will only use weapons from the trilogy, That means the short bow, the short sword, the dagger, and the club (though it was a blackjack in the games, but close enough). He will have to wait until level 4 to get his pip in blunt weapons for the club.
And away we go...
