Agreed. Narrative runs are much more involved to write and don't benefit from being jumbled up with tales of invisible familiars blocking paths so you can AFK your level 1 wizard swinging away with Aule's Staff
Having messed around with character.ai and chatGPT I don't think it will be all that long (10 years?) before LLM stuff is being integrated fully into RPGs in order to model + generate reactive branching naratives: the holy grail of RPGs.
Two thoughts based on playing characters in Hard difficulty Last Azlanti
1. Daeran - every "build" I see posted is trying to make him into something he isn't - and I can understand that since meta is 'healing in combat is a waste of action economy' - but daeran is the healer. It would be almost...
*sickly minimum constitution level 1 wizard wanders in* "Hey, you look like a tough sort, can you just reclaim my McGuffin from a band of ravaging half ogres?"
nothing unusual about bedding down and takin' a quick 8 hour nap after every fight. hell, if you don't have a cleric why not go full rip van winkle and sleep for a week
Some changes have happened since I completed the Core Ironman run; but I have come up with a variant even better and more RP-friendly:
Instinctual Warrior 4, Eldritch Scoundrel 16.
You get Focused Rage which gives +2 to AB and +2 Wis; along with bonus HP. Rage synergises with Demonic Rage.
You...
I got my ironman solo LoB Fighter-mage to the same point I always get LoB stuff: Dukes. Then I chickened out even though they're at their easiest with WoMS+Heroism+Durlags. Ho hum.
It should be compatible with any additional NPC mods - they will get a +2 to each stat boost to bring them in line with the game. Additional areas should also be compatible. Anything that changes enemy placement or AI, or modifies items or spells will probably be a caveat emptor situation, there...
I've been taking a step back from Pathfinder and returned to one of my all time favourite mods and games: OlvynChuru's Icewind Dale Difficulty Mod.
What is it?
Do you ever find yourself wishing the Icewind dale enemies would use HLAs at level 10 and spam nasty CC and dispel magic at you? If so...
Thank you both. Fortunately I have both my NM and Normal respecs available for just this eventuality - I loaded vit because I don't know which bows I might be looking for and what their requirements are, with the idea that I can respec when/if I find something good. Irritatingly Hell countess is...
Finally ran a singleplayer HC character through Nightmare to Hell.
Cold Bowazon. Absolutely vile until getting Freezing Arrow at level 30 (turns out exploding arrow then re-spec is the only sane option).
Act 2 normal merc for Blessed Aim aura because we cannot hit anything. Combined with...
After 51 hours I have got very good at the game - comparatively.
I still believe the combat is weak, but being quite good at it is its own reward. I have been doing a Core difficulty minimal reload run. So far I have died once, to a fight I didn't have to do, in a style I definitely did not...
I noticed it as a particular weakness with the style of cutscene dialogue they have gone for. Usually I do not care about this, but with the amount of effort into (pseudo-)naturalistic presentation of conversations the mute protag is uncanny valley tier in some places iirc.
After 44 hours of play I finally got far enough that I had to fight a difficult and time consuming random encounter every time I wanted to travel. I put this entirely down to Alpha build and am sure this will be modified, but as is the game is borderline unplayable at this stage. 44 hours...
